Solo Leveling is an action series that follows the story of the protagonist, Sung Jinwoo, a man who started as the weakest Hunter and then rose to become a powerhouse capable of defeating almost anyone in his path. Solo Leveling’s protagonist, Sung Jinwoo, has always been incredibly popular from its novel days, but the anime by Aniplex and A-1 Pictures is what brought the series to new levels of popularity. Since it burst onto the scene, we’ve seen the announcement of a plethora of Solo Leveling projects, notably in the video game department, with games like Solo Leveling Arise.
Solo Leveling Arise has previously teased, on June 2, 2026, the release of a new Sung Jinwoo alt, the Shadow Monarch Successor. This form is officially being released today, on July 30, 2026, and, expectedly, Jinwoo’s aura with it is unmatched. This transformation makes Sung Jinwoo invincible and holds tremendous significance in the story. While we won’t see this form in the anime for a long while, we’re excited to get it in the 2024 video game adaptation for the time being.
Solo Leveling Arise is a video game adaptation of the Solo Leveling series, which was originally created by Chugong in 2016 and 2018. It bases its designs in part on the Manhwa adaptation, which was created by Redice Studio in 2018. The creation of this game coincided with the big release of the anime adaptation in 2024, which propelled it to fame and allowed for the global fanbase to get addicted to this action-filled and flashy story.
Upon the debut of Solo Leveling Arise, players were immediately gifted the character of Sung Jinwoo, as he is the main character of the story and an essential character to have in hand. It’s been two years, and now, Sung Jinwoo is getting a brand-new character release on top of his base form. We are now getting Sung Jinwoo as a Successor of the Shadow Monarch. This form was initially showcased and teased on June 2, 2026. The form itself was supposed to be released in June, but it was pushed back to July 2026 by producers. On July 27, 2026, we were finally given an exciting new update on this form.
“The next Successor will be the Shadow Monarch, who was first teased during the June Developer Live Stream.
However, as the ‘Shadow Monarch’ is Sung Jinwoo’s identity, it will be prepared specially, unlike other Successors.
Detailed information will be provided separately in the future, so please stay tuned.
The next Monarch will be the Shadow Monarch who was first revealed during the June Developer Live Stream. The Shadow Monarch will be released as a Dark element Monarch in late July. We are planning to make this Monarch obtainable through gameplay as well, so please look forward to it. Detailed information will be provided in a future notice.” — Solo Leveling Arise
Solo Leveling Arise has released new gameplay footage for the upcoming Shadow Monarch successor form of Sung Jinwoo. We have also received new art of him, showcasing Jinwoo in a stylized and flashy manner in his astralization transformation. Today, on July 30, 2026, after a long wait, we have finally received this form to unlock in Solo Leveling Arise. Luckily for fans of Sung Jinwoo, this form will be free to unlock. Fans simply have to play through the game to eventually acquire him, which makes him a worthwhile character to get, especially with incredible power as the second and newest Successor added since Myro from May 2026.
Why Jinwoo’s Shadow Monarch Form Is Invincible
In Solo Leveling Arise, the newest form of Sung Jinwoo is referred to as the Shadow Monarch Successor Form. That is because, in this form, Jinwoo takes on a form reminiscent of Ashborn as his successor, and the one who carries his legacy forward following the events of the Double Dungeon, where he was chosen as his vessel. This form was specifically unlocked in Jinwoo’s final fight, which saw him take on the ultimate villain of the series, Antares, the oldest Monarch and the Monarch of Destruction. In many ways, this form, referred to as his Astralization Form by fans, is basically invincible.
This form is his version of Spiritual Body Manifestation, and it sees him coat himself in Shadows and reach new heights of power as the true Shadow Monarch of the story. With this form, Jinwoo was able to defeat Antares with the help of the Rulers in the first timeline, and in the second timeline, during the 27-Year Monarch War, he used this form to single-handedly take down the Monarch of Destruction. With this transformation, Jinwoo is the singular strongest character of Solo Leveling and stands as an invincible being that has surpassed all others. That said, Jinwoo’s Shadow Successor Form will not be invincible in the Solo Leveling Arise game itself, but it’s set up to be a powerful transformation that greatly boosts his Shadows and grants him amazing Successor abilities to top it all off.
Jinwoo’s Shadow Monarch Form Will Be Revealed In Solo Leveling Anime’s Last Arc
The addition of Jinwoo’s astralization form in Solo Leveling: Arise via the Shadow Monarch Successor Transformation is exciting for fans of the series. Aside from Solo Leveling Arise, we had received a look at this form in Solo Leveling Arise Overdrive, another game from 2025. Unfortunately, when it comes to the anime, this form is still very far from being revealed.
Since Sung Jinwoo utilizes this form in his final battle, we will only see him take on this Ashborn transformation at the end of the story. In other words, this transformation will only be showcased in the final animated project of Solo Leveling; while it will be a moment to behold, especially with how Aniplex and A1 Pictures have been handling the series, it is still years away for now.
Since we’re getting Solo Leveling: Beyond The System in 2027, we can expect the Solo Leveling series as a whole to get two more projects after, preferably within the next 4 years, pushing the reveal of Jinwoo’s Astralization Form to at least 2030.
For now, we can enjoy Jinwoo’s invincible transformation in Solo Leveling Arise. In the future, we will also see this form make its comeback in the upcoming video game releasing in 2026 — Solo Leveling Karma. Since Karma tells the events of the 27-Year Monarch War, we will see Jinwoo use this form once again against Antares in his final battle at the end of the game. Fans are hyped and looking forward to it, especially after its showcase during Anime Expo 2026 on July 5.
