A new Steam beta has fixed a Steam Frame wireless adapter that had stopped connecting, according to the owner who reported the problem. Two other owners say theirs still fail. All three use Linux.

The report was filed on October 15, just before a Steam client update with four adapter fixes. The next day its author said a new beta seemed to have solved it. Valve marked the report as needing a retest but has not commented.
Two more owners then joined the thread. One on Arch Linux said the adapter had been unreliable before the update and now does not connect at all, and another on Fedora 44 described the same unreliable behaviour.

What goes wrong
The Frame shows the adapter as “Waiting…” before streaming and “Inactive” once SteamVR is running, which suggests the connection never forms rather than dropping. Re-pairing, toggling the adapter in Steam’s settings, rebooting and replugging did not help.
The original owner says the fault first appeared in a desktop beta, went away in a stable release, then returned when the beta code reached stable. Nobody has named the build that broke it or the one that fixed it, so owners with a dead adapter have nothing specific to install.

Several adapter fixes this month
Valve has worked on the adapter from both ends in October. SteamOS 0.4.3 fixed connection problems for users in some countries, and the October 15 client update improved pairing and fixed a driver crash. Neither is confirmed to be the same fault.
Three owners on three Linux distributions is a small sample, but for now only one of them has a working adapter.
