July 16, 2025 – Lumus has announced an expansion of its partnership with Quanta Computer Inc., aimed at supporting scalable manufacturing of its reflective waveguide-based optical engines for augmented reality (AR) glasses.
Quanta has transitioned to dedicated automated production lines tailored to Lumus’ waveguide technology. According to the company, the move has enabled more efficient, higher-yield manufacturing of compact optical engines, contributing to a scalable supply chain for next-generation consumer AR devices.
“One of the most persistent misconceptions about geometric (reflective) waveguides is that they are inherently difficult to manufacture at scale,” said Ari Grobman, CEO of Lumus. “Our work with Quanta over the past several years proves otherwise. Through sustained investment in automation, process optimization, and dedicated infrastructure, we’ve established a clear, scalable path to volume production.”
Lumus stated that over 55,000 of its waveguides have shipped to customers to date, with the majority produced by manufacturing partners such as Quanta over the past five years. The company noted that its waveguides are manufactured using a unified process across different field-of-view configurations, aiming to reduce complexity and cost for OEMs while maintaining consistency in output.
“Our goal has always been to align best-in-class optical performance with manufacturability,” added Grobman. “This partnership extension reinforces that commitment and positions us – and our partner – to meet demand as AR transitions from early adoption to scale.”
