Magic: The Gathering is collaborating with many franchises in 2025 with its Universes Beyond sets. The crossover with the Final Fantasy series resulted in one of the most successful Magic: The Gathering sets of all time, and later in the year, fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender are going to be treated to many cards based on the series, though very few have been revealed so far. It is the Spider-Man set that has the Magic: The Gathering community talking, though, with many new cards being shown off recently.
The MTG Spider-Man cards revealed so far are very interesting additions to the game, leading to some interesting synergies for players hoping to build decks based around the web-slinger. Featuring many iterations of the wall-crawler throughout the multiverse, players have a lot of options to make these heroes team up in combos. However, there is another superhero team-up that could make this Magic: The Gathering collab even better, and WOTC is already halfway there.

Spider-Man Could Lead to More Deadpool Cards in Magic: The Gathering
MTG Has Many Marvel Collabs
As exciting as the Spider-Man and Spider-Man Eternal sets are, this is not the first time Magic: The Gathering has collaborated with Marvel. In 2024, The Magic: The Gathering Marvel Secret Lair was available for players to buy, separated into five drops focusing on the characters from Black Panther, Captain America, Iron Man, and X-Men, with the latter being split into cards related to Storm and Wolverine.
Though it was announced at the time that Spider-Man would be the next Marvel superhero to be featured in the TCG, another Marvel Secret Lair was announced on April Fools’ Day 2025, though the cards themselves were no joke. This drop added Deadpool cards to Magic: The Gathering, including the fourth-wall-breaking Deadpool, Trading Card, which gives the illusion that Deadpool is slicing through the physical card with his katana. These cards, like all other Secret Lairs, had a limited release, meaning that new players shouldn’t expect them to return any time soon. This doesn’t mean that the character can’t return, however, and the Spider-Man collab could present the best opportunity.

Spider-Man and Deadpool Could Team Up in MTG
Deadpool went from a lesser-known Marvel anti-hero to one of its most popular characters. Featuring in many video games and movies, Deadpool’s popularity has made him a household name. The April Pools’ Day Secret Lair drop was a great reward for fans of the character, but the collab shouldn’t stop here. The upcoming Spider-Man sets are likely to draw in plenty of new players, but restricting one of Marvel’s most beloved characters to a limited release could be disappointing. If any Marvel character is likely to find a way to return, it’s Deadpool.
Throughout the Marvel comics, Deadpool and Spider-Man have made for an enjoyable duo to follow. Both share a similar sense of humor and a tendency to quip when in danger, but Wade Wilson’s trigger-happy nature conflicts with Peter Parker’s moral compass, leading to some interesting interactions. Following on from the Spider-Man Magic: The Gathering sets, WOTC shouldn’t be afraid to revisit the Merc with a Mouth, giving players a new range of Deadpool cards to use in their Spider-Man decks.

MTG Has Plenty of Options for Deadpool Variants
The idea of the multiverse hit the mainstream recently, with Deadpool & Wolverine being one of the latest Marvel movies to use this concept. The Spider-Man Magic: The Gathering collab shows that multiple variants of the hero can feature in the same set, so if more Deadpool cards were to be released in the future, it wouldn’t be impossible to see many variants of the anti-hero from Deadpool & Wolverine and the comics.
The existing Deadpool Magic: The Gathering cards mostly feature Wade Wilson, with the exception of the Harmless Offering bonus card, which shows Gwenpool holding up Jeff the Land Shark. For a new set of Deadpool cards, there may be some more Wade cards, but there are tons of Deadpool variants who could also take the spotlight, including:
- Lady Deadpool
- Venompool
- Gwenpool
One of the best choices for a Deadpool variant in Magic: The Gathering would be Lady Deadpool. As one of the strongest versions of Deadpool, Lady Deadpool is much more competent than Wade in combat, and as such, her card would likely have abilities that focus on her dealing damage to opponents or their creatures. She recently appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine and is one of the character’s most popular variants, so it wouldn’t be likely for her to be overlooked.
Tying back in with Spider-Man, another great choice could be Venompool. By bonding with the Venom symbiote, Deadpool becomes even more of an unpredictable threat, which could make for an interesting MTG card. Venomized designs are still popular, with Marvel Rivals recently receiving symbiote skins for the roster in the Season 3 Luxury Battle Pass, so a Venompool card could take advantage of the popularity of this variant type.
Although Gwenpool is already on the Harmless Offering card, she doesn’t have a card of her own. Spider-Gwen has multiple cards in the upcoming Spider-Man sets, so it would not be out of the question for another version of Gwen Stacy to receive a card. Gwenpool is almost as popular as Wade Wilson’s Deadpool, with an even greater emphasis on breaking the fourth wall. Gwenpool deserves a Magic: The Gathering card of her own that is just as meta and self-referential as the character herself.
Spider-Man’s crossover with Magic: The Gathering is likely to excite fans of both franchises while being the perfect incentive for Marvel fans to try the TCG for the first time. News on any Marvel sets following MTG’s Spider-Man remains unknown, but this could be the perfect opportunity to release more Deadpool cards. It could lead to some great combos as part of a Deadpool and Spider-Man team-up while bringing a host of new variants to the game, each with their own unique abilities.
