Kristen Stewart rarely watches entire films
The 35-year-old star is one of the world’s best-known actresses – but Kristen admits that she finds it hard to watch a movie from the beginning until the end.
Speaking at France’s Deauville Film Festival, Kristen explained: “It sounds f****** absurd coming from me considering it’s what I want to do with the rest of my entire life, but I have to strap myself into a seat to stick with an entire movie. I drift in and out.”
Despite this, Kristen confessed to being inspired by Catherine Breillat.
The Hollywood star admitted that Breillat’s A Real Young Girl influenced her own directorial debut, The Chronology of Water.
Kristen also discussed her admiration of The Piano Teacher, the Michael Haneke-directed erotic tragedy.
She said: “It’s just one of my favourite movies of all time.”
The Piano Teacher is based on the 1983 novel of the same name by Elfriede Jelinek.
Kristen explained: “I think it’s one of the most genius adaptations that I’ve ever had the pleasure of both reading and watching.
“It was very similar to One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest because there’s an internal experience going on in the literary form of this that is so articulate.”
What’s more, Kristen admitted to being a huge fan of The Lovers on the Bridge, describing it as a “a very quaint relationship movie”.
Kristen reflected: “He’s closed off. He’s afraid that if she can see the whole world, then she won’t want him. He’s running after her. She’s out of reach until she’s so exhausted that he play acts that he’s leading her in this waltz. But then ultimately, she spins off a top.
“It’s like, you can’t control the things you love. I’m so sorry but if you did, you wouldn’t want it.”
Meanwhile, Kristen previously claimed that women need a “leg up” in the movie business.
The actress revealed that she actually struggled to get the support she needed for her directorial debut.
The Hollywood star – who premiered The Chronology of Water at the Cannes Film Festival – told IndieWire: “This was not without help. I needed to have a couple of public temper tantrums in order to get the right people to listen.
“I have this stunning collaborator in Charles Gillibert, who [produced] On the Road, Personal Shopper, and Clouds of Sils Maria. He understands that [women] need help and we need a f****** leg up.
“It took a long time to get this made. Yeah. It took forever.”
