There is one priceless moment in Nollywood with Mercy Aigbe‘s character, a mother whose spontaneous and romantic interlude with the husband is interrupted hilariously by the daughter in Palava. During a very intimate moment, Aigbe’s character, after which she slaps her husband’s backside, stands there with her mouth agape while the daughter watches in disbelief.

And people are just dying! The clip has gone viral with viewers sharing thousands of reactions and comments over and over again just because of the daughter’s priceless facial expression. One user joked: “One moment your parents are romancing, next thing you are raising your own sibling like it is your firstborn.” Ouch. So very true!
And these come back even funnier. “That bum slap was loud though,” one user said; “Bisola (the actress playing the daughter) is genuinely shocked for real-life,” a second one commented. I suppose this must be peak Nollywood comedy gold, with Aigbe and Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) being hailed for their immensely hilarious performances.
There’s no fun for some, though. Others took the comment box as an opportunity to share their awkward family stories. “Imagine you being single probably as a graduate and your parents keep falling in love over and over again and rubbing it in your face,” commented one. Another said, “They dare not, na to pack their luggage outside to go to their father’s house.” The struggle, I guess.
Curiously, the post also stirred some debate as to where one might watch the full movie. While some fans thought this brand-new exclusive, others insisted that Palava has been streaming on Prime Video since. “It’s an old movie, na it don dey Prime since,” one comment read. This should do good, as many increasingly want to see more after this clip.
A few fans used that moment as an opportunity to praise Aigbe’s acting in general. “I love Mercy Aigbe so much,” one comment read. Not that there is a reason not to love her- she absolutely slayed that scene. Between a not-so-close-door kind of overly passionate romantic affair, one loud-ass shock slap, this clip precedent has to go viral for all the right reasons.
That much brings to explanatory accounts about why Nollywood comedy hits different. These films take mundane family situations and turn it up to 11 for some of the best entertaining (and meme-worthy) moments. Judging from the bits and pieces here, Palava is going on the must-watch list either for a good laugh or for just reminding you that your parents are not that extra.
