If you are a fan of the Warhammer universe or just like to play games where you cut a guy in half with a chainsword, you need to give Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 a go. Space Marine 2 is merely a baby in the game world, and was only released back in September 2024, making Humble’s whopping 40% discount even more juicer. The game is on sale alongside other Focus Entertainment titles like Atomic Heart and Evil West, with the deals going as high as 90% off.
Before I say anything else, don’t compare Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 to the Gears of War franchise. Both can be considered the crème de la crème of action-adventure games, and yes, both lean into the hack-and-slash genre, but I can confirm they are very different. Why? They just are okay, leave me alone. Now we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get down to business. Set 200 years after the first game, Space Marine 2 sees you play as Lieutenant Demertrian Titus and your goal is to fight the Tyranid swarm, which threatens the Imperium.
This fast-paced third-person shooter blends ranged gunplay-bolters, plasma weapons, and brutal melee combat to create a beautiful concoction of ways to mow down the enemy horde. Strategy is at the heart of this game; it’s not about button-mashing…. Although I will still give a good college try! You need to parry, dodge, and time your strikes to perfection. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention how therapeutic it is to melt enemies with your heavy plasma incinerator or stomp a guy to death.
In our Space Marine 2 review, Reid McCarter says “The missions are filled with wide vistas of crumbling cityscapes devastated by war, open skies pierced by the spires of unfathomably enormous pseudo-cathedrals and war machines.” I agree and would add that this visual depiction of the war-torn landscape, combined with the brutality of combat where guts and blood fly in all directions, helps make for an immersive experience.
