VisualArts announced that its cloud storage had a breach that resulted in the leak of the Anemoi visual novel. It also suggested that there could be possible leaks of thousands of personal data entries as well.
The company first noticed the irregularity when a leak of the Anemoi master data was uploaded to a foreign website on April 19, 2026, five days before it formally released the visual novel on April 24, 2026. It then found out that an unauthorized third party had stolen access to its cloud storage via the intracompany portal system.
Other than the visual novel leak, VisualArts also noted possibilities in leaks of personal data registered via the company’s web store and contact forms. The list includes over 6,000 entries of account names and email addresses, nearly 500 entries that include Japanese individual card numbers, nearly 1,500 entries of other company representatives who had contacted VisualArts, over 1,000 entries of job applicants including their phone numbers and residence addresses, and over 100 entries of existing and former staff members.
Due to the server breach, VisualArts has temporarily taken down its VA Store website and put it under maintenance until it has finished applying enhanced security measures. The company had also reported the server breach to the Japanese government’s Personal Information Protection Commission on May 11, 2026.
VisualArts initially revealed Anemoi in June 2024. The company originally set a release window in 2025, but it eventually set a full release date that missed that window on April 24, 2026.
Anemoi is readily available for PC in Japan via physical disc sets, as well as digitally via DMM, DLsite, and Animate Games.
