HoYoVerse shared details about what we can expect from the 8.8 Honkai Impact 3rd update arriving on April 30, 2026, and it will include the AstralOp character Bailu Youyun. This will make her the sixth unit of that type in the game since those kinds debuted in 7.3.
There are no details about how Bailu Youyun works in-game yet. Most of the initial teasers have to do with her character design and personality. We’ve known about her for a while, since she’s a Data Research Institute director and a professor there. She taught the previous AstralOp units like our avatar the Dreamseeker and Chenxue. The one infographic mentions she’s proud of all her students (unless they’re taller than her) and seems to be aware of her reputation for being “cute.” The HoYoVerse statements about her character design mention the antlers are an accessory, her uniform is a custom design due to her prestige and position, and references a like for strawberry mochi.

There are only a handful of AstralOp characters available in Honkai Impact 3rd. One of the last ones to appear was Theresa Apocalypse. She’s an S-rank unit who launched in 8.1.
This isn’t the only HoYoVerse game with a character named Bailu. One of the launch units in Honkai: Star Rail was a young Vidyadhara Abundance healer of the same name. Like this character, she also features dragon horns on her head.
Honkai Impact 3rd is available for PCs and Android and Apple iOS devices, and the AstralOp character Bailu Youyun will debut after the 8.8 update arrives on April 30, 2026.
