The Steam Summer Sale is already packed with discounted PC games, but we have found a better deal hidden in plain sight: dozens of flatscreen games that can be modded to work in VR.
We have a long list of Steam Summer Sale games that can be played in VR using mods. The list includes major titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Alien Isolation, Half-Life 2, Portal 2, Deep Rock Galactic, Subnautica, Black Mesa, and The Callisto Protocol.
Steam does not have a clean way to search for “flat games that can be modded into VR.” Native VR games are tagged, but games that work through community mods, injectors, or tools like UEVR are much harder to find.
UEVR, for example, can bring many Unreal Engine games into VR with OpenVR/OpenXR support and 6DOF tracking. Other games rely on separate modding projects from creators such as Luke Ross, Raicuparta, Team Beef, NoMoreFlat, and others.
There is also a broader community VR mods list for PCVR users who want to check compatibility before buying.

The catch is that these are not native VR games. Some may work well, some may need profiles, and some may be better with a gamepad than motion controls. Performance can also be demanding, especially if you are using high resolutions or newer AAA games.
This list is not complete and does not sort games by motion controls, first-person support, third-person support, or how well each one runs. In other words, do your homework before buying.
Still, this is exactly why PCVR remains interesting. Even when the official VR release calendar is slow, the modding community keeps turning regular PC games into VR experiments.
During the Steam Summer Sale, that can make a $2 or $5 game feel like a completely different experience.
