Into the Radius 2 is now available in Early Access on Meta Quest 3. We’ve briefly tried it out.
Ten months after the Early Access launch on Steam, Into the Radius is now playable natively on Meta Quest 3 and 3S.
CM Games writes that the Quest version is almost identical to the PC VR version. What is still missing are the Pechorsk Outskirts and Distortion Zones, which will be added in future updates. The progression and difficulty levels have been adjusted accordingly.
The studio emphasizes that Into The Radius 2 is still deep in development. It promises regular updates and does not guarantee that game saves will be carried over every time. Players will definitely have to start from scratch when the full version is released. But in return, you can actively help shape the game through early feedback.
The co-op mode for 2 players is currently in beta and is not yet stable. It is unlocked as soon as the tutorial and the first mission is completed. Friends are invited via a room code. Crossplay between the Quest and Steam versions is not supported.
In its current state, the Quest version offers around 15 hours of content. In a developer post, you can read about what else awaits you in Into The Radius 2 on Meta Quest and what has not yet been implemented. The latter includes localization in languages other than English.
First impressions
I spent about half an hour exploring the game this morning. In the areas I visited, the game ran at a resolution below 2K by 2K with noticeable aliasing, a frame rate of 72 FPS and Asynchronous Spacewarp enabled—so visual artifacts are visible in some places.
Overall, the experience felt smooth. With the help of Quest Games Optimizer, I was able to significantly increase the resolution without introducing stuttering. However, that doesn’t necessarily make the game visually impressive. Like the original, Into the Radius 2 stands out for its atmosphere and gameplay systems rather than its graphics. The trailer below provides an accurate representation of what to expect visually.
Into the Radius 2 is available on both the Horizon Store and Steam. A 15% discount is available on the Quest version until June 9 using the code ITR2_EA-501CA6.
