The new Quest 3S VR headset from Meta is in the starting blocks, and the first reviews should show if it’s worth buying. However, there will be no detailed review on MIXED for now.
The Meta Quest 3S was unveiled at this year’s Meta Connect and is supposed to give a boost to Meta’s XR efforts with an absolutely competitive price and only a few technical compromises compared to the Quest 3.
At $299 for the 128 GB model, the VR headset is the successor to the highly successful Meta Quest 2 and could be an affordable entry point for newcomers to VR and mixed reality.
If it’s worth the money, you can find out in our review — but unfortunately not in time for the headset’s release on October 15, 2024.
Meta Quest 3S: Where is our review?
The reason we don’t have a review online for the launch of the Quest 3S is simple: we don’t have a review unit. At the time of writing, our review unit had not yet arrived.
It was shipped on Friday afternoon, and the end of the embargo, the time when the media is allowed to report on a product, was on October 14.
So you see, even if the Quest 3S had arrived on Saturday and I had started testing it right away, the time window for a detailed review in the quality you can expect from MIXED would have been more than tight.
We don’t understand why Meta sent out review copies to VR magazines so close to the official release, and we would rather not speculate. Maybe other media or content creators were luckier.

When will the review of the Quest 3S on MIXED follow?
As soon as I have the Meta Quest 3S in my hands, I will test it extensively. However, I will take things slowly. It doesn’t do me or you any good to rush through a review just to get it online as close to the release date as possible.
We will therefore publish a long-term test of the Quest 3S on MIXED and try out the headset over a longer period of time in various areas of use. And we will accompany the review process with many interesting articles about the Quest 3S as well so stay tuned for more content about the Meta Quest 3S.
