ASICS, the global pioneer in sports innovation, continues to embrace the phrase “borderless sports” as they support community initiatives and collaborations with the VR sport community in the DISC community Discord server.
Since the DISC server launched in September, the leadership team has encouraged engagement and hosted activities, including a Halloween event and also a Spinball tournament in collaboration with Blue Duck Studios and the VR Party League community.
VR sport communities are still relatively small compared to other genres of VR gaming (social VR, first-person shooters, narrative experiences, etc.), but the combination of physicality and technology create a powerful attraction for enthusiasts who believe immersive tech can achieve the greatest potential for mental and physical stimulation.
What is Borderless Sports?
The concept of borderless sports describes a world where our technology supports body and mind with a philosophy that sports bring people together, cross borders, and change lives. Virtual reality is the perfect example of this as it connects people from around the world and enables them to play a physical sport together despite great distance.
What is DISC?
DISC is an immersive sport conceived and being built specifically for virtual reality. The game features various options for multiplayer gameplay and the developers are actively inviting future players in the DISC Community Discord Server to share their hopes and requests for the game, uniforms, play styles, etc.
This transparent communication style is one of the ways developers are building a strong relationship with players. It also allow s players to feel a stronger connection to the game and community that they’re investing in.
How Can I be Involved?
Currently players can apply for Early Access, but meanwhile there are plenty of other opportunities to be involved in the DISC server. Activities include:
- Tournaments for other VR sport games (community collaborations)
- Community events (such as the upcoming DISCmas celebration)
- Mini-games (daily online games such as Wordle and Connections)
- Fitness challenges
- Opportunities to level up in the community and earn color roles that will give you prestige as the server grows
- Discussions and player-preferences related to game assets such as uniforms & helmets
Server admins are eager to hear suggestions from the community. The desire is to see continued growth that reflects the goals and desires of people who are specifically interested in VR sports, esports, and fitness.
XRL Racket Club Tournament
DISC supports collaborative community tournaments and kicking off this week is the XRL (XR League) Racket Club Tournament. If you haven’t played Resolution Games’ Racket Club, it’s a fantastic VR sport that has a great setup for competitive events as players can enter the “club” and jump into their match or watch others play.
The DISC Community Discord Server is sponsoring some great prizes for this December 2-15 event.
