Grand Theft Auto VI Release Date Is About a Year Away

Rockstar Games shared an update on Grand Theft Auto VI after months of silence, and it involved a 2026 release date. While the team originally expected to release it in 2025, it turns out it is about a year away still. However, we now have an exact date for it. GTA VI debuts on May 26, 2026. 

The official announcement on Rockstar Newswire got into the exact reason behind the delay out of 2025. The team’s goal is to provide the highest quality product possible, essentially, and so the company will take the extra time to continue to focus on its development. 

Here’s the full statement regarding the Grand Theft Auto VI release date:

“Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026. We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game. With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve. We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.”

We’ve heard nothing about the new entry since December 2024. That was when the first GTA VI trailer appeared. However, that didn’t roll out exactly as planned. Following a leak of the video, Rockstar Games ended up sharing it earlier than expected. It introduced a heroine named Lucia, who lives in Leonida.
