Love it or loathe it, Carry Forward has become part of the furniture for Call of Duty. I get it, we’re all completing ridiculous objectives that make us want to take a drill to the temple. However, Activision has just thrown a spanner in the works ahead of Modern Warfare 4 Season 1, confirming that Warzone won’t carry forward legacy weapon camos after all.
In a correction to its latest blog post, Activision admits it mistakenly claimed that legacy weapon camos would appear in Warzone. Instead, Operators/Operator skins and Weapon Blueprints from Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7 will remain available when the new season launches. Activision’s correction is a little confusing, as it initially suggests that legacy content won’t carry forward, before confirming that most of it actually will.
The key thing to note is that weapon camos won’t transfer. Every legacy weapon will still feature a five-attachment version that you can unlock through the Armory. You’ll also retain access to existing blueprints and their original attachment configurations. However, you won’t get Gunsmith functionality or support for previous custom loadouts on legacy weapons and blueprints.
Activision wants Warzone’s weapon meta to revolve around Modern Warfare 4, for better or worse, while still giving players access to their favorite weapons from previous games. Raven Software will also continue its biweekly weapon balancing updates to keep the arsenal fresh throughout each season.
Some players love it, but I’d be all for Modern Warfare 4 abandoning previous arsenals and completely focusing on the weapons in the latest entry. It all reminds me of the awful transition for Black Ops Cold War’s weaponry into the Warzone meta, and I’d like to avoid that hell again.
There’s another significant change coming to Warzone, too. Starting with Modern Warfare 4 Season 1, you’ll get a new Operator Skin toggle that lets you filter out appearances from previous Call of Duty games. Switch it on, and you’ll see Modern Warfare 4 skins instead of other players’ legacy characters, whether they’re enemies, party members, or squadmates. The filter only affects your own game, leaves your equipped Operator untouched, and stays off by default.
