Kemco is practically a storied publisher at this point, offering a variety of cult classic JRPGs from indie developers to Western gamers for perhaps the first time. And their latest effort is no less interesting and innovative, with a mixture of classic JRPG gameplay and board gaming(!?) That’s right, Dragon Spira is now available to buy on iOS and Android!
Standard JRPG story incoming. In the distant past, six creatures known as the Spirit Beasts were tasked with stewarding the world. However, when they rebelled, the divines trapped them in magical eggs. After that, they created humans, leaving the Divine Sword and Seed of Hope. Now, it’s up to a hero to, you guessed it, save the world!
So far, so over-the-top as fans know (and love) from this genre. But what does Dragon Spira do differently? Well, it mixes in new ways to level up. You use RP gained from battle to play the Sugoroku board, landing on stat spaces to power up your party, or even gain bonus treasure and other bonuses!
Turn-by-turn
Those of you who enjoy your creature-collecting can also enjoy the journey of raising one of the legendary Spirit Beasts and levelling them up. Just like Pokémon, they’ll evolve and gain new powers, with Wonder Skills that serve as your limit break during battle.
You’ll also have access to a variety of jobs you can mix and match, with distinct graphics so that no matter what you pick, you look different. You’ll even be able to nab advanced jobs for even greater flexibility! All this is available for just $9.99, with a freemium option on Android for spendthrifts.
