Randall Park Discusses Among Us's Lengthy Release

Among Us became one of the biggest gaming success stories of the COVID-19 pandemic, which transformed Innersloth’s social deduction game into a cultural phenomenon. The game’s popularity eventually led to an animated television adaptation, with CBS Studios assembling a star-studded cast of voice actors, including Patton Oswalt, Kimiko Glenn, Randall Park, Elijah Wood, and Yvette Nicole Brown. And, after being announced in 2023, the Among Us TV show was surprise-released on June 5, 2026.

Like many animated productions, Among Us had spent years moving through development and post-production. That lengthy timeline recently came up in an interview with GameRant’s Renan Fontes, where cast members Randall Park and Kimiko Glenn discussed the recording process and the lengthy time that’s passed since recording their dialogue.

There Were Very Few Updates on the Among Us TV Show Before Its Surprise Release

The Among Us TV show was first announced in 2023, and while fans had received casting news and occasional production updates since then, information had been thin. Randall Park’s recent discussion with GameRant’s Renan Fontes offers a glimpse into what the recording process can look like from an actor’s perspective. When asked whether there was room to riff and improvise, Kimiko Glenn explained that animation generally sticks closer to the written material while still giving performers the space to experiment.

I think in animation it’s pretty much scripted, but there’s so much room to play.

Park agreed, adding that the cast was “allowed to let loose” during recording sessions. “It’s pretty much scripted, yeah, but they allowed us to kind of let loose,” he explained. Recalling what these moments of letting loose looked like, Park explained that Among Us’s lengthy development cycle had blurred many of those memories. “Oh gosh, we recorded such a long time ago,” he said, with Glenn quickly adding, “years ago.” Park went on to explain that the gap between recording and release is a natural part of animation.

That’s the thing about animation, you play so much and by the time it comes out, it usually takes a lot of time to come out because the animation process takes so long. Then you see it and there are things I don’t even remember saying or doing.

Park then jokingly added, “I was like blacked out the whole time, and then you see it and you’re like, ‘Oh, this is great.'” Animated projects can spend years moving through development before finally reaching audiences, and that lengthy timeline has been especially noticeable for the Owen Dennis-created project, which was quietly moving through the development process. However, in January, Innersloth’s 2026 roadmap assured fans that the show isn’t dead, and on June 5, all 10 episodes were surprise-released on Paramount+ with no prior announcement.

Fans have only just received Among Us, but before that, only a few details had been confirmed. The animated show adapts the game’s premise; a crew member has been replaced by an alien shapeshifter whose goal is to sow chaos, sabotage the ship, and eliminate every member, so the crew must try to find the “Imposter.”

Among Us has already received good reviews, thanks to the game’s popularity, Infinity Train creator Owen Dennis at the helm, and the ragtag group of characters that includes White (Oswalt), Orange (Yvette Nicole Brown), Green (Elijah Wood), Cyan (Glenn), and Red (Park). Reviews also point to Park’s bumbling portrayal of Red as a particular highlight, which we now know was recorded years ago, so Among Us fans should definitely head to Paramount+ to check it out.
