The Weeknd was energetically pitching surprises from the past during the Jenna Ortega sit-down. The man just could not stop screaming ‘A Goofy Movie’ as if it had been his personal motto, more than once! Is he really going to show up for a gig in a Powerline costume?

For those who missed out on it, Complex shared some uncut moments from their ‘GOAT Talk’ series where The Weeknd and Jenna Ortega were sharing good vibes as The Weeknd began hyping the 1995 Disney favorite. No explanation given, just pure chaotic love for Max and Goofy’s road trip. And so the internet collectively lost its mind.
One of the very appreciative comments, by an aptly named user, Fat Depressed Teenager, said: “No actually w movie. I grew up watching it, had it on dvd.” Same, dude. Same. That movie was the cultural reset before we even knew what it really meant. The soundtrack alone? Powerline’s ‘Stand Out’ and ‘I2I’ – top-notch.
In comes the one questioning, ‘Which dancing white lady where you referencing?!!?!’ We genuinely don’t know the answer, but the question really amuses us. Could it be about those random background characters in the movie? Or maybe it is about just how strange The Weeknd’s brain works? Either way, that tweet is meme-worthy.
Meanwhile, Mon dieu! Another dude transforms this into a drinking game: “Taking a shot every time goofy is mentioned.” Bold strategy. Hope they made it through the interview without ending in the ER.
This is really not the first time the man has gotten all whimsical about such obscure childhood treasures. Does anyone remember that he sampled the ‘Sailor Moon’ theme? Or does anyone remember him just randomly channeling ‘The Simpsons’ in an interview? The guy is unpredictable with pop culture just as he is with music.
Jenna Ortega’s reactions in this clip just made it all so priceless. She’s just sitting there like, “…Wait, are we really talking about Goofy’s son right now?” But if anyone can make a ’90s cartoon sound cool, it’s The Weeknd.
Now there’s no word on whether this means a Goofy Movie reboot with some soundtrack bits from Abel, but honestly? Sign us up. Until then, we’ll just be here with the original, pretending we’re at a Powerline concert.
Side note: If you ever find yourself talking about ‘A Goofy Movie,’ do someone a favor and do some research. The jokes still hold up; the tunes are great, and the father-son drama becomes a lot more relatable from an adult standpoint. The Weeknd knows what he’s talking about.

Also, in a world full of serious interviews and rehearsed answers, shoutout to Abel for keeping it weird and nostalgic. Next stop: Him covering ‘Stand Out’ live. Make it happen.
