June 23, 2025 – Meta and Oakley have announced the launch of a new product line of ‘Performance AI glasses’ through an expanded collaboration with EssilorLuxottica. The first model, Oakley Meta HSTN, combines Oakley’s sport-focused eyewear design with Meta’s AI capabilities.
With the launch of Oakley Meta HSTN, Meta is doubling down on a category it already dominates. The company’s smart glasses strategy has been clear: combine useful AI features with iconic eyewear brands people actually want to wear. Its partnership with EssilorLuxottica has been central to that approach, helping Meta sidestep some of the clunky design pitfalls that plagued earlier attempts in the space.
Oakley Meta HSTN Features
The Oakley Meta HSTN is built for hands-free capture and audio functionality, with a built-in camera, open-ear speakers, and IPX4 water resistance. The glasses aim to support athletic use cases and daily wear, offering users the ability to record content, play audio, and interact with Meta’s voice assistant.
According to Meta, the glasses deliver up to eight hours of battery life under typical use, with 50% charging possible in 20 minutes. A bundled charging case provides up to 48 additional hours. A 3K Ultra HD camera allows users to record high-resolution videos from a first-person perspective.
Meta AI is integrated directly into the glasses, enabling users to interact via voice for hands-free assistance, from checking weather conditions to activating video recording via voice commands.
The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 Platform, a chipset designed specifically for AI-powered wearables. According to Qualcomm, its chip is what makes many of the glasses’ features like voice-activated photo capture, video streaming, real-time translation, and AI-powered scene recognition possible, without compromising battery life or design.
How Much Will Oakley Meta HSTN Cost?
Preorders for a limited-edition Oakley Meta HSTN will begin on July 11, priced at USD $499. The broader collection will follow later in the summer, starting at USD $399. Initial availability will cover the U.S., Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark, with planned expansion to Mexico, India, and the UAE later in 2025.
The product will debut at several sporting events, including Fanatics Fest (June 20–22) and UFC International Fight Week (June 25–27), as part of a global campaign featuring Team Oakley athletes such as Kylian Mbappé, Patrick Mahomes, Gabriel Medina, and J.R. Smith.
Ray-Ban proved the concept, but Oakley is scaling it, and this latest release helps solidify Meta’s position at the front of the pack in the AI smart glasses race.
