Jamie Lee Curtis delivered a two-word verdict on the upcoming film Sender on Instagram, and the whole genre community is sitting up straight. “A RAVE!” she wrote – tagging director Russell Goldman, production companies Comet Pictures and Brittle, and the entire cast. That means Rhea Seehorn, Anna Baryshnikov, and David Dastmalchian.
Two words. Total conviction. From one of horror’s most respected voices, that’s Avengers-level endorsement energy right there.
Curtis’s Spidey senses for genre films are basically legendary. She’s spent decades in the horror world, most famously as Laurie Strode across the Halloween franchise. Her reach goes well beyond her own credits. She watches genre work, champions other filmmakers, and speaks up for what’s worth watching. The woman lives in the genre. She doesn’t throw the word “rave” around for nothing. And this particular endorsement – tagging the film, the director, and every cast member – landed like a canon event. Everyone watching Sender’s pre-release buzz noticed.
And she did this unprompted. There’s no sign of a financial stake or a PR obligation here. She saw Sender, she reacted, and she made it public. That kind of unforced co-sign carries real weight. In horror circles, it’s the equivalent of a post-credit-scene tease – everyone’s now paying very close attention.
Sender is produced by Comet Pictures alongside Brittle. The cast alone was already generating buzz. Curtis’s endorsement came on top of all that. Rhea Seehorn brings serious dramatic firepower to the project. She spent years as the quietly intense Kim Wexler on Better Call Saul, earning multiple Emmy nominations along the way. A genre film with her in the lead is already swinging for the fences.
Then there’s David Dastmalchian. Nobody in horror has the fan community’s ear quite like him right now. His genre credits include Prisoners, Ant-Man, and The Suicide Squad. He’s earned a reputation as one of the most committed character actors in the space. His presence in Sender is a signal. Goldman is clearly making something with actual ambition. Dastmalchian doesn’t sign onto a project for nothing.
Anna Baryshnikov rounds out the main cast. She’s been building her filmography steadily across film and television, and this is a genuine step up in profile. A role alongside Seehorn and Dastmalchian – with Curtis now publicly raving about the film – could be exactly the breakthrough she needs.
As for Goldman, this marks a major vote of confidence from a genre titan. Directing a film is one thing. Having Jamie Lee Curtis voluntarily announce it as a rave is something else entirely. An unprompted endorsement from someone with her credentials is priceless. Money can’t manufacture that kind of support. Goldman now has serious name recognition in genre circles. Curtis gave him that in a single Instagram post.
No wide release date for Sender has been announced yet. Opening weekend is still a ways off. But with that Instagram post from Curtis already circulating through horror communities, the groundwork is being laid. Fans are circling, the tagging is spreading, and the excitement is building fast.
The Queen of Scream has spoken. Put Sender on your watchlist. That’s just how this works.
