One Piece is currently in the climax of the Elbaf arc, and the creator of the series, Eiichiro Oda, has revealed a tremendous amount of lore here pertaining to the Void Century. While a full look at the Void Century will only come when someone claims the One Piece, bits and pieces are now starting to be revealed, especially following the descent of Nerona Imu upon the Warland Elbaf in One Piece Chapter 1179 on April 5, 2026, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #19.
Through this massive lore dump that has come in Elbaf, we now have our look at a new ally of Joy Boy from the Void Century. This person is shaping up to be none other than Biblo, the giant owl in Owl’s Library.
One Piece’s Elbaf Arc Unveils Joy Boy’s Void Century Ally Biblo
Eiichiro Oda expanding upon the character of Joy Boy, as well as his allies, has been a constant in the Final Saga. It is here that Oda first confirmed to us that Joy Boy was the first to call himself a pirate long ago, during the Void Century era. Then, in the very same arc, it was confirmed to us that the Iron Giant named Emeth was an ally of Joy Boy from the Void Century. It was because of Emeth that the Straw Hat Pirates were able to survive the events of Egghead when he unleashed his Haki in One Piece chapter 1122 on August 5, 2024.
“I’ve tied a knot of the greatest Haki and locked it inside your body. You’re going to keep on living long after I’m dead. There will come a day when I can’t help you anymore.” — Oda shows Joy Boy and Emeth’s friendship in the Void Century, One Piece Chapter #1122
Now, in Elbaf, we have yet another ally of Joy Boy, and this one is none other than Biblo, who was officially introduced to us in One Piece chapter 1134 on December 23, 2024, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Double Issue #4-5. Biblo is a very intriguing character; at first glance, it simply appeared to be a giant owl that Oda introduced for no particular reason other than watching over the Owl’s Library. But, it didn’t take Oda long to confirm to us that Biblo is actually centuries old.
“Biblo is the Chief Librarian of Owl’s Library. They say he’s been here for hundreds upon hundreds of years. He gigantifies any book that enters its territory.” — Biblo’s introduction, One Piece Chapter #1135
In fact, Jarul, the oldest living person in the entire world, is 408 years old right now, but even he doesn’t know how old Biblo is, suggesting that Biblo is from the era of the Void Century. Biblo also guards the history of Elbaf, as well as its myths and lore pertaining to the Sun God Nika. Clearly, Biblo is an ally of the Sun God and stems from the era of the Void Century. This goes to show that he had ties not only to Douzan, who existed long ago, but also to Joy Boy. In One Piece Chapter 1182, released officially on May 10, 2026, it was officially confirmed to us that Biblo had saved all the books from burning when the Owl Library was set on fire. This clearly shows its alliance with Joy Boy and the Ancient Kingdom, given that these books contain key bits of history pertaining to the Void Century war as well as the war to come.
“To think that this door led to an underground passage. This hidden room is unbelievable. You saved all the books from the fire and brought them here, Biblo! But I’m starting to see you as more of a mystery now, Biblo!” —Saul confirms Biblo saved the history of Elbaf, One Piece Chapter #1182
Why Biblo And Joy Boy Were Companions
Biblo being a companion of Joy Boy should not come as a surprise to any fan. Eiichiro Oda is slowly building Joy Boy’s crew up and revealing characters connected to him. This first started with the introduction of Zunesha before the Final Saga even began. Zunesha was a companion of Joy Boy who finally got to hear his voice again in One Piece Chapter 1044 after the awakening of Hito Hito no Mi Model Nika, on March 28, 2022. Then, in Egghead, we got to meet Emeth, the Iron Giant, whose past with Joy Boy was briefly touched upon in One Piece Chapter 1122 before he ended up saving Luffy, the new Joy Boy of the current era.
“Momonosuke! I can hear it! It’s so nostalgic! For the first time in 800 years, I can hear the Drums of Liberation. Here’s back! Without a doubt, Joy Boy has returned!” — Zunesha confirms bond with Joy Boy, One Piece Chapter #1043
Now, in Elbaf, Eiichiro Oda has shown us another peculiar creature who is hundreds of years old and holds a keen interest in aiding Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates, as well as the history of Elbaf. Clearly, this bird is also connected to Joy Boy as one of his biggest allies, and the upcoming chapters of the story will explain to us why that is the case.
Eiichiro Oda Is Setting Up Major Information Dump About Joy Boy in Elbaf Arc Epilogue
In One Piece Chapter 1188, which was officially released on July 12, 2026, Nico Robin summoned Chopper to help speak with Biblo. This development will only transpire after Nerona Imu is driven out of Elbaf by Luffy and the country is saved. Once that happens, we will finally get to see a massive information dump from Biblo, which could give us yet another look at the Void Century Era and perhaps explain bits and pieces about Joy Boy.
With One Piece now edging close to its conclusion, it is no surprise to know that more members of Joy Boy’s crew are being revealed to us one after another. Following the introduction of Scopper Gaban in Elbaf, the next few arcs might give us a look at Joy Boy’s strongest companions from long ago, provided they survived in some way or form. We absolutely cannot wait to see how Oda develops Joy Boy’s group even further before the entire history is eventually revealed through someone claiming the One Piece.
For now, the focus remains on the confrontation between Nerona Imu and Monkey D. Luffy at the end of the Elbaf arc. With Scopper Gaban having sacrificed his left arm to save Luffy in chapter 1190 on August 9, 2026, we are now going to see the latter do his utmost best to drive Imu out of the country. As that happens, massive pieces of lore will finally start being revealed by Oda before Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew set sail away from Elbaf and head towards the Final Island where only the Pirate King stepped foot, as teased by Eiichiro Oda himself at Jump Festa 2026.
