James Gunn started sending ripples of excitement toward doom-unforgettable events. The director revealed that he would be in Mexico CCXP on June 1st for an exclusive panel of Peacemaker with John Cena. “Big surprises” were whispered by Gunn, paradoxically spawning all sorts of speculations as to what one might expect. The tweet ended with the merman and Mexican flag emojis, letting creativity run wild.

Not everybody shares his enthusiasm. The announcement got mixed reactions, some with outright contempt. One disgruntled follower wished they had let loose, stating, “And I can’t wait to NOT see you anymore and your shitty DC stuff!!!” Another said flatly, “Nobody wants you here. Get lost.”
The conspiracies began to flow: “Why does John Cena follow so many white supremacists?” questioned one user before going on, “Every time I see a white supremacist in my feed who doesn’t follow him… John Cena follows them. What’s up with that?” The bizarre accusation left people in thought.
There were, of course, the diehard fans. “Thank you for restoring hope for the DC Universe,” stated one admirer, hopeful for the interconnected storytelling Gunn is famous for. Another jokingly said, “Can I ask how long you will be in charge of DC? I need to know how long to freeze myself.”
Meanwhile, the gathering resurrected some old debates concerning Gunn’s prior quotes. One asked, referencing an old tweet, “Have you forgotten what you said about Mexico?” while others sarcastically thanked him for supporting “Kong Kingdom.”
Amidst all the chaos, a few straightforward questions flew in from the fans. “Will you be doing anything like this in the US?” asked one, while another golfer queried about the merman emoji: “Is that Aquaman or something else?”
The announcement got everybody’s attention, with reactions good, bad, and weird. For good or bad, James Gunn is a guy who will remain relevant and will keep stirring the pot. So, with big surprises promised, June 1 just might get a little messy.

Will this panel take off or crash and burn? Time will tell. But judging from the reactions so far, it surely will be a hell of a ride.
