While the company has yet to officially confirm any details, the findings that Luna shared, as well as other industry reports, suggest that a new pair of augmented reality (AR) glasses from Meta, along with an advanced wrist-worn controller, may be nearing release.
What is rumored so far about Meta’s next AR glasses?
According to datamined images and information shared by Luna, Meta’s Hypernova device may be marketed as Meta Celeste. Renders of the glasses appear to feature a small heads-up display (HUD) in one lens, reportedly designed to present simple information such as notifications, navigation prompts, and Meta AI text responses.
Unlike Meta’s existing collaborations with Ray-Ban and Oakley, the leaked designs suggest that these glasses would carry standalone Meta branding and feature a bulkier frame to accommodate the display technology. Unearthed firmware also hints at the inclusion of a mini-game called Hypertrail, potentially offering location-based gameplay inspired by classic arcade shooters.
How will the Meta Ceres EMG wristband work?
The leaked data also points to the inclusion of Meta’s wrist-worn controller, codenamed Ceres, which uses surface electromyography (sEMG) to detect subtle muscle signals in the wearer’s wrist. This technology would enable gesture-based control of the glasses without requiring overt hand movements or spoken commands.
Leaked tutorial images and videos show several potential gestures that build on Meta’s previous demonstrations of neuromotor input, including swiping the thumb over the side of the index finger, pinching and pulling motions, and wrist rotations.
