Justin Timberlake arrived at Don Toliver’s Miami concert as a spectator and left as the night’s biggest surprise guest. He said later that the detour was not part of his plan.
Timberlake made an unannounced appearance during Toliver’s August 22 stop at Kaseya Center, performing “Rock Your Body” before staying onstage for “Body,” the OCTANE track built around a sample of his song.
The 45-year-old singer documented the change of plans in an August 23 Instagram Reel. It starts with him watching from the VIP section, flashes a SpongeBob SquarePants-style “a few moments later” card and then cuts to Timberlake walking onstage.
The cameo was Timberlake’s first confirmed performance since his surprise appearance at a Recording Academy event in January. It was not, however, his first performance after disclosing his Lyme disease diagnosis; the January tribute came six months after that announcement.
Timberlake Went From VIP to ‘Rock Your Body’
“I just wanted to watch the show from the VIP,” Timberlake wrote beneath his Reel. He repeated the line to the crowd after Toliver brought him out, turning the caption into the night’s running joke.
Toliver danced beside Timberlake as he handled “Rock Your Body,” with the Kaseya Center audience supplying plenty of help. Timberlake then remained onstage while Toliver moved into “Body,” giving the crowd the original song and its 2026 descendant back to back.
The appearance came late in Toliver’s set and followed another unannounced guest. Key Glock had appeared earlier to perform “Ambition for Cash,” according to PEOPLE.
Ticketmaster billed the Miami date as “Don Toliver: NITROUS – OCTANE World Tour Leg 2” and listed Chase B on the lineup. The August 22 show was part of the North American leg of Toliver’s tour.
‘Rock Your Body’ Is One of Toliver’s Favorite Songs
Toliver explained the personal connection during a March Billboard interview at SXSW. He said his mother played Timberlake, Pharrell Williams and Outkast while he was growing up, and he placed Timberlake’s 2002 album Justified among his 10 favorite albums.
He said the significance of the sample did not fully register while he was recording “Body.” After living with the track for about a week, he remembered thinking, “Hold on, this is literally one of my favorite songs of all time.” Toliver added that “Rock Your Body” triggers an emotional response for him and called the combination of the two songs “iconic.”
“Body” appears on Toliver’s fifth studio album, OCTANE. The record became his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 162,000 equivalent album units in its opening week, and all 18 tracks entered the Billboard Hot 100. “Body” led the album’s debut-week entries, reaching No. 14.
Miami Was Timberlake’s First Performance Since January
Several early reports incorrectly treated the Miami cameo as Timberlake’s first time onstage since his Forget Tomorrow World Tour ended in Istanbul on July 30, 2025. He had performed publicly once between the tour finale and Toliver’s concert.
On January 29, Timberlake made a surprise appearance at the Recording Academy Honors presented by the Black Music Collective in Los Angeles. The Recording Academy said he capped the tribute to longtime collaborator Pharrell Williams, who received the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. Timberlake’s medley included “Rock Your Body,” “Señorita” and “Like I Love You.”
Timberlake Disclosed His Lyme Diagnosis After Touring
Timberlake revealed his Lyme disease diagnosis on July 31, 2025, one day after completing the tour. In his Instagram post, he described the illness as “relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically.”
He said the diagnosis helped explain why he sometimes performed through a “massive amount of nerve pain,” extreme fatigue or sickness. Timberlake also wrote that he had considered ending the tour but decided the joy of performing outweighed the physical stress he was experiencing.
At the time, Timberlake said he did not know what his future onstage would look like. His January tribute and the unannounced Miami cameo are his only confirmed public performances since that disclosure.
