In the Jujutsu Kaisen franchise, Domain Expansions are typically considered the most powerful techniques that a character can pull off. This is mostly because, if a target is caught in one of these attacks, it surely spells their doom, due to most Domains inherently coming with the sure-hit effect of their user’s Cursed Technique.
Among the many Domain Expansions in Jujutsu Kaisen, Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine is, by far, the strongest of them all due to its open barrier nature. However, despite its unrivaled strength, there are a few characters in the series who have managed to survive its terror.

Jujutsu Kaisen: 7 Strongest Characters In Modulo Era, Ranked
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo introduced some of the strongest characters in the franchise’s history, with power far beyond anything seen in the OG JJK.
Inumaki Was Left Alive but Permanently Disfigured
Collateral Damage From Malevolent Shrine
During the events of the Shibuya Incident, the franchise would see one of its bloodiest and most destructive instances once Sukuna opened his Domain against Mahoraga. Due to it being an open barrier Domain, the range of Malevolent Shrine is immense as it targets the outside world by sending slashes off in every direction around it.
Due to this, many innocents were killed by the numerous Cleaves and Dismantles that were shot out. Among those affected was none other than Toge Inumaki, though he was far luckier than most since he only lost his arm, whereas the others were diced up into little pieces.
Mahoraga Had Already Adapted to Malevolent Shrine
The Greatest Shikigami
The Shibuya Incident saw the first appearance of Mahoraga, who is considered the crown jewel of the Ten Shadows technique and the main reason why it is often considered the strongest Cursed Technique in the series. His fight against Sukuna proved exactly why he is one of the strongest and most terrifying creatures in Jujustu Kaisen.
When they initially fought, Sukuna had no idea about Mahoraga’s adaptation ability, which is why he constantly used his Shrine technique to slice him up. Unbeknownst to him, Mahoraga had been adapting to cutting attacks in general, which is how he was able to walk through Sukuna’s Domain Expansion as if it were nothing.

Maki Managed to Escape the Domain in the Nick of Time
A Very Close Call
Malevolent Shrine works in a very interesting way. Essentially, once activated, the Domain uses the two different kinds of slashing attacks endemic to Sukuna’s innate Cursed Technique: Cleave and Dismantle. The former targets objects within its range that have Cursed Energy, and the latter does so for those that do not.
Since Maki has no Cursed Energy because of her Heavenly Restriction, she would have been targeted by Dismantle and sliced into pieces. However, in the nick of time, she was protected by Miwa’s Simple Domain and was then teleported away by Todo’s Boogie Woogie due to holding onto her, making her a survivor of Malevolent Shrine.
Yuji Was Able to Survive Malevolent Shrine and Furnace
His Immense Talent Shone Through
Yuji and Sukuna have had an intertwined journey due to the King of Curses formerly inhabiting the young sorcerer’s body before the events of the Culling Game arc. Because of this, Yuji’s body was seeped in Sukuna’s own Cursed Energy, and it allowed him to quickly understand many complicated abilities, such as Reverse Cursed Technique and Simple Domain.
Towards the closing moments of the Shinjuku Showdown arc, Sukuna regains the ability to perform his Domain Expansion for the first time since his fight against Gojo, giving it a far more grotesque and eldritch appearance. However, due to the training Yuji had undergone previously, he managed to learn Simple Domain, which allowed him to survive Malevolent Shrine.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4: 5 Fights That Fans Can’t Wait To See Animated
The fights in JJK are some of the greatest in the entire anime industry, and Season 4 is going to feature the best battles in the series.
Yuta Made Use of Gojo’s Powerful Domain
The Return of Yuta
Although Yuta had already fought against Sukuna, the King of Curses eventually proved to be far too strong for him at that stage, managing to hit him with a massive slash that seemingly killed him. However, none could have expected Yuta to return the way that he did, which was within Gojo’s body that he had taken over due to gaining Kenjaku’s technique.
This was a massive reveal as Yuta could now use Gojo’s Limitless technique to fight against Sukuna, which culminated in a Domain Clash which showed both of them matching their Domains. Ultimately, Yuta broke both his own and Sukuna’s Domain by unleashing a Hollow Purple on the enemy, marking himself as one of the few who have survived Malevolent Shrine.
Gojo Was The Only One Who Ever Matched Sukuna
The Strongest Sorcerer of the Modern Era
In both of his showings against the King of Curses, Yuta proved that he was exceptionally powerful, especially once he took over Gojo’s body. However, he was unable to use his teacher’s power even close to its limit, which just goes to show that he was the strongest because he was Gojo Satoru and not the other way around, as Geto pondered.
Gojo was the only one who was ever strong enough to be considered an equal to Sukuna, and their ultimate battle showed both of them giving it their all. The best part of this was the consecutive Domain Clashes they had, during which Gojo was able to match Sukuna’s Domain Expansion a total of five times, showing just how much greater the two of them were compared to everyone else.
