January 12, 2026 – XREAL, a provider of augmented reality (AR) glasses and spatial computing technologies, has announced a strategic partnership with ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) to unveil the ROG XREAL R1 AR glasses. Announced last week during CES 2026, the device is the first to feature a 240Hz refresh rate in a spatial display format, according to the company.
The ROG XREAL R1 utilizes micro-OLED technology to deliver a Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Powered by XREAL’s dedicated X1 spatial computing chip, the glasses project a virtual screen equivalent to 171 inches from a distance of four meters, providing a field of view (FOV) of up to 57 degrees. For competitive gaming, the device features a 3ms motion-to-photon latency.
The hardware includes the ROG Control Dock, which provides connectivity through DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.0 ports. This allows users to switch between PCs and consoles. The R1 also supports a direct USB-C connection to the ROG Ally handheld console, which the company stated is optimized for plug-and-play use with zero setup required.

Weighing 91 grams, the R1 features XREAL’s X-Prism optical engine and electrochromic lens technology. This allows the lenses to automatically adjust transparency based on lighting conditions or when a user looks away from the anchored virtual screen. The glasses also incorporate Sound by Bose technology for spatial audio and support 3 degrees of freedom (3DoF) tracking, allowing players to anchor the virtual screen in a fixed physical position.
