Square Enix announced that, as a result of sudden congestion on the the Asura World in Final Fantasy XI, the company will enforce measures to help alleviate the issue. Producer and Director Yoji Fujito took to the official site to announce three efforts will be enacted to help spread out the current Final Fantasy MMORPG population and make it easier for everyone to play it and enjoy it. While action isn’t immediately happening to address the issue, it will start on July 29, 2025.
There are three measures being taken to help ease the pressure on the Asura Final Fantasy XI world and hopefully mitigate congestion. One is that it will temporarily be impossible for anyone who doesn’t already already have a character on that world to make a new character there. If you already do have one, you can make another. It will also be temporarily impossible for people on other Worlds to use the World Transfer Service to move there. It also noted the Vana’diel Adventurer Recruitment program, which lets people get items like Copper AMAN Vouchers, the Guide and Sprout Beret cosmetics, and items like a Detonator Belt, Miniature Airship, and Timepiece, temporarily doesn’t apply to that World.
While Final Fantasy XI is the oldest MMORPG in the series, as it debuted in May 2002, it is still quite active and Square Enix continues to invest in and develop it. For example, a race change service for player avatrs finally appeared in 2025. There are also Limbus updates in the works.
Final Fantasy XI is available on PCs, and Asura congestion measures will start on July 29, 2025.
