How to use Titles and Prestige Points in Nioh 3
In a nutshell, Titles are awarded by completing objectives, and Prestige Points are a currency given to players after they obtain Titles. Both can be viewed by selecting the Titles option from the main menu in Nioh 3.
The objectives for obtaining Titles are unfortunately very nebulous – for instance, the game awards Titles for killing “a certain number” of enemies or finding “a certain number” of items in the open world. The exact number is never revealed, probably to encourage exploration, but the Title List in the menu shows a percentage, indicating how close you are to achieving that Title.
Titles are split into the following categories:
- Samurai: Titles related to your Samurai form, like Mid Stance Master, awarded after you defeat enemies via your Mid Stance.
- Ninja: Titles related to your Ninja form, like Mist Expert, which is awarded after you use your Mist to evade enemy attacks.
- Tactics: Titles related to using weapons, elemental attacks, and so on. For instance, Eagle Eye is awarded after you repeatedly hit enemy weak spots with ranged weapons.
- Subjugation: Titles related to killing a certain number of enemies. For instance, Skeleton Warrior Hunter is awarded after you keep kicking the bony butts of the Skeleton Warriors you come across.
- Formidable Enemies: Titles related to defeating the Formidable Enemies (AKA bosses) you encounter on your journey. These include Yamagata Masakage Crusher, which is awarded after killing Yamagata Masakage a certain number of times.
- Crucible: Titles related to navigating the Crucible, like Bodhisattva Statue Tracker. This is awarded after you keep activating the Crucible’s Bodhisattva save statues.
- Exploration: Titles related to general exploration and side quests, like Hot Spring Lover, which is awarded after you find enough Hot Springs on your map.
- Facilities Titles related to using the menu at save shrines, buying items in shops, and forging at the blacksmith. These include Dedicator, which is awarded after you make offerings and exchange your unwanted gear.
- Collection: Titles related to collecting stuff, like Samurai/Ninja Points, gold, equipment, etc. For instance, Accessory Collector is awarded after you’ve accumulated a certain number of Accessories.
Once you get a Title, you’ll also get Prestige Points. When you select the Obtain Prestige from Titles option in the Titles menu, you can distribute these points in order to give yourself bonuses.
For example, let’s say I’m awarded the Samurai Title Mid Stance Master, for using Mid Stance a lot while in combat. This gives me several Prestige Points. Within the Obtain Prestige from Titles menu, I can now head to the Samurai section and look at the boons available for me to take. These include great options like “Melee Attack Ki Consumption”, which reduces the amount of Ki required to perform attacks as a Samurai, and “Guard Ki Consumption”, which reduces Ki lost while guarding.
Each of these boons has a level. The more Prestige Points you have available, the more you can level up the boons, which increasingly gives your avatar an edge in both combat and character growth. As you can see, the Titles menu is a powerful in-game secret that’s a little complicated to grasp at first – but more than worth your while to understand!
