Growing up, I didn’t learn spades from a rulebook. I learned it sitting across the table from family. Like so many people, I watched before I ever played. I listened to conversations, picked up strategy from older relatives, learned the importance of trusting his partner, and quickly discovered that if I reneged, someone at the table would never let me forget it. That’s how millions of people have learned spades, not through a tutorial, but through tradition.
Players will immediately recognize familiar traditions including Jokers and Deuces, Reneg calling, partner strategy, competitive bidding, and the friendly trash talk that’s been part of Spades for generations. Over the years, one question kept coming up from players: “When are we getting a real spades game on XBOX?” The team at Konsole Kingz heard the call and answered with a powerhouse game designed to bring back the nostalgia. Earlier this year, I had the honor of being featured in XBOX’s Black History Month campaign celebrating Black creators making an impact in gaming. The recognition reinforced that video games don’t just entertain; they preserve traditions, celebrate communities, and create opportunities for people to see themselves reflected on screen. Launching Black Spadeson XBOX feels like continuing that conversation. As an independent Black-owned studio, Konsole Kingz believes representation goes beyond the people who make games. KEY HOUSE RULES (Here are a few…)
– Trump Card Ranking (Hi Joker, Lo Joker, Deuce of Spades, Deuce of Diamonds, Ace of Spades)
– Reneg (Play the wrong suit and kiss those 3 books goodbye.)
– Spades Lead (Play a spade whenever you feel like it, but don’t reneg.)
– Blinds (Go Blind 6 or Blind 7 when you are down 100 points.)
– 10 for Two/Wheels (Bid 10, Make 10, get 200pts)
– 1st Hand Board (Must make 4 books in the first hand or automatic loss.)
– Boston! (Make 13 books in the first hand and win.)
– First Hand Open (No bidding in the first hand.)
– Double Set (Make twice the books you bid and get a penalty.)
– Bags (Each book made over the bid is 1 point. 10 bags = -100 points.)
– Game Point: 250 points, 350 points, or 500 points
