While life simulation games like The Sims 4 can be fun for the first few hours, playing aimlessly can result in boredom. Adhering to goals and player-defined scenarios is both creative and fun, and it removes the barriers of boredom and frustration.

The Sims 5 is surely on its way, but there are many new expansions that we could see in The Sims 4 before a new game is released.
Challenges are a great way to shake up your gameplay and discover parts of The Sims games that you normally wouldn’t discover. Challenges have long been a part of The Sims community as far back as The Sims 2 and have been adapted for The Sims 4. They have their own rules, themes, and requirements. Some take place over generations of sim lives, while others for just a portion of one.
Updated on June 8, 2025, by Nahda Nabiilah: While some Simmers only play with a family for a few days and then leave them to start another, others love to create families and complete a legacy challenge. Thanks to the Sims community, long challenges don’t have to be boring with unrelated goals. Now, there are so many legacy challenges, each with its own set of rules and requirements to make gameplay more enjoyable for players.

The Occult Baby Challenge
Woohoo With All Occults
The Occult Baby challenge was created by SIMSSAV. The objective is to have a baby with every Occult available in The Sims 4. You start with one Sim and start flirting with the Occult until you can Try for Baby and get pregnant. Once the baby is born, each generation focuses on certain Skills that are usually related to the Occult you romanced. Once the Sim reaches level 5, Simmers can move them out of the house and start on the second generation.
When the challenge was created, the Life and Death Expansion Pack wasn’t out yet. So now, it will be easier to complete The Occult Baby challenge. It’s also perfect for Simmers who wish to discover every secret of The Sims 4 Occults. The only downside is that you have to own a lot of packs to play this challenge.

Not So Berry Challenge
Every Generation Of Sims Must Adhere To Their Own Chosen Color In Every Facet Of Their Life
The Not So Berry Challenge is a colorful take on the Legacy Challenge, where every generation represents a different color and personality. A sim’s hair, clothing, skin color, make-up, and house décor all represent their chosen color. Each generation and color comes with its own set of personality traits and goals.

10 Things Cut From The Sims 4 (That Were In The Original Game)
The Sims 4 has taken flack from fans for not having the same magic as the original game. Here are some quirky things not in the current installment.
An alternative to the Berry Challenge is the Not So Berry Challenge, which forgoes the skin color change. If you don’t want your Sims to be bright pink or blue, this may be a more palatable version of the challenge. Either way, the rules of this challenge make for a colorful twist on the vanilla Legacy Challenge.

Very Veggie Legacy Challenge
A Very Healthy Legacy Challenge
Following the Not So Berry challenge, Lilsmsie created another food-related challenge called the Very Veggie legacy challenge. In each generation, Simmers will play with multiple Sims or heirs representing a different vegetable, and each one has its own set of rules and goals to complete before moving on to the next one. So, you start with broccoli, then eggplant, until you reach pea, which is the final generation.
The Very Veggie challenge is a rags-to-riches type of challenge, so you do need to remove all the money after choosing an empty lot. If players are hesitant to try this fun challenge because it needs many packs, don’t worry since Lilsmsie has also made a Base Game version for each generation.

One-Tile Box Challenge
A Bit Claustrophobic…
The One-Tile Box challenge rules explanation is found within its name. Simmers must create a Sim and move them to an empty lot. Create a one-tile box in Build Mode, make the Sim go inside, delete any exit, and then remove all remaining Simoleons. You start in a box with no money, and the goal is to somehow make money and expand the house until you have the basic rooms, like a bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, and so on. Only then can the Sim get out of the house.
As there is limited space at the beginning of the One-Tile Box challenge, most players make a bit of money by taking pictures and selling them. Once they have a bit of room, Simmers choose a profitable hobby and start making more money. There are many methods to make money, like selling paintings, searching the Box of Decorations for something to sell, making pottery, and so much more. You have the freedom to use any desired method as long as you complete the challenge.

Cowplant Farm Challenge
Maintain A Cowplant Farm Without Meeting A Grisly Ending
The Cowplant is an infamous plant in The Sims 4. While the milk that players get from this plant is extremely useful, it comes as a major risk. Cowplants are starving creatures that resort to eating Sims if they aren’t fed regularly.
To maintain a farm of these dangerous plants is a naturally dangerous proposition, but an enticing one nevertheless. Players are recommended to dedicate a Sim’s entire life to maintaining the farm, since failing to do so can lead to deadly consequences.

Vampire Dynasty Challenge
As The Name Suggests, Form And Help A Vampire Dynasty Flourish
Vampires are fun to play in The Sims 4, with these supernatural creatures switching up the gameplay from the standard Sim families. Players who want to lean heavily into the act of controlling vampires can help them live on for numerous generations.
Creating a dynasty of vampires isn’t the easiest thing in the world, but it can still be done if the player wishes. As long as they account for the restrictions that govern a vampire’s life, they can have a fun time creating a dark, brooding family that feeds on other Sims for sustenance.

Alien Adoption Challenge
Raise An Alien Without Directly Controlling The Baby Until They Become A Young Adult
The idea of raising an alien in The Sims 4 can sound like a pretty unique prospect, and players seeking out the same can try out the Alien Adoption Challenge. It gives players the task of raising a kid without controlling them as an active Sim.
This can be quite hard, with Sim autonomy being infamously random and annoying in the games. If players are able to help an alien Sim get out of school, then they can control them from the moment they become a young adult.

Zodiac Challenge
Play Through 12 Different Generations Of A Family With The Heir Being A Different Zodiac Sign Every Time
The challenges where players are roped in for the long haul end up being the best ones, and this is precisely the case with the Zodiac Challenge. It compels players to play through twelve different generations with the heir being a member of a different zodiac every time.

Apocalypse Challenge
Start On An Empty Lot And Help Players Climb The Ranks To Reach The Very Top Of Their Career
The Apocalypse Challenge is one of the most complex challenges in the game, with players having to raise Sims and make them the masters of the career path they choose. This is easier said than done since each career path comes with its fair share of restrictions too.
This challenge is a complex and long one that players will spend quite a lot of time on. The fact that they need to start out in what is essentially an Empty Lot makes the beginning especially harder.

Random Legacy Challenge
Play As A Sim With A Random Legacy Chosen By The RNG Gods
Players love to decide the Legacy for their Sim and adhere to what they think is best. However, this challenge turns things upside-down and leaves players at the mercy of randomly generated parameters that decide everything from a Sim’s career of choice to their position on marriage.
What makes this challenge even worse is that Sims must devote the majority of their time to developing these Legacies, to the point where it’s forbidden for them to even earn money through other tasks that aren’t relevant to their legacy. It’s one of the most popular challenges in The Sims 4 and a perfect one for beginners to check out.
