A vacation can look real for months. There are payment plans, group chats, wedding dates, resort names, and promises that the details are coming soon.

For customers of FlyGirl World Travel, those details did not hold up. Travelers across several states said they paid a Chicago-area travel business for vacations, hotel stays, and group trips, only to find reservations canceled, incomplete, or missing altogether.

The FBI’s Chicago Division is seeking potential victims of FlyGirl World Travel. Federal investigators said they believe the agency collected customer payments, canceled reservations, and failed to return the money.

The complaints include a family Aruba trip, planned travel to Egypt, and a destination wedding in Mexico that one Chicago couple said cost their group more than $180,000. WGN Investigates later reported that customers believe the travel business may have resurfaced under another name.

The FBI Wants to Hear From FlyGirl World Travel Customers

The FBI victim form asks people how they learned about the company, who they communicated with, how many people were in their travel party, what was supposed to be booked, how they paid, how much they paid, whether they received confirmations or itineraries, and whether they were refunded.

The form also asks for invoices, receipts, emails, social media responses, and other records connected to FlyGirl World Travel transactions.

Many of the complaints described by local stations follow the same path: customers said they paid for trips, waited for travel details, and later found out the bookings were not active or had not been completed.

An Aruba Group Reached the Resort and Found No Rooms

ABC7 Chicago reported that Katherine Jones-Young and her relatives paid Laticha Douglas of FlyGirl World Travel for a trip to Aruba. Jones-Young said her household alone paid more than $5,500.

The group found out at the resort. According to ABC7, they were told there was no valid reservation because the booking had been canceled for nonpayment.

Jones-Young said the group had to spend thousands more to secure rooms after they arrived. She told ABC7 she had booked through Douglas before and had a good experience, which made the failed Aruba trip harder to understand at first.

Another traveler in Maryland told ABC7 she paid nearly $4,000 toward an Egypt trip but never received confirmation details. She later received an email saying FlyGirl World Travel had closed and future trips had been canceled.

A Mexico Wedding Became the Largest Reported Loss

FOX 32 Chicago reported that Iris Smith and Dedric Vaughn hired Douglas to help coordinate a destination wedding in Mexico with about 75 guests.

Guests paid through FlyGirl World Travel for travel, hotel rooms, and other costs connected to the wedding. Smith and Vaughn said the arrangements fell apart before the July ceremony, and the couple estimated their group’s total loss at more than $180,000.

FOX 32 reported that only a small share of guests received refunds. The wedding was canceled, leaving the couple with favors, plans, and debt tied to a trip that never happened.

The station also documented complaints from travelers who said they paid $2,300 for a Jamaica trip and $3,900 for an Egypt trip that never materialized.

Customers Say the Business Reappeared Under Another Name

The complaints continued after FlyGirl World Travel customers were already trying to recover money. WGN Investigates reported that some customers believe the operation has surfaced again under different branding.

Customers who spoke to WGN said they recognized similarities between the earlier FlyGirl World Travel operation and the newer travel business. The FBI has not announced a criminal charge in the FlyGirl matter, and the newer name-change claims remain based on customer complaints and local reporting.

A new business name should not be the only thing a traveler checks. Before paying for a group trip, destination wedding, cruise, or resort stay, customers can ask the hotel, airline, cruise line, or tour operator to confirm that the booking exists in its own system.

Travelers Should Confirm the Booking With the Vendor

The FTC warns travelers to be careful with vacation offers that require payment by wire transfer, gift card, payment app, or cryptocurrency, because those methods can be difficult to reverse.

Before sending money, travelers should ask for written refund rules, itemized pricing, confirmation numbers, the legal name of the business taking payment, and the names of the hotel, airline, cruise line, or tour operator handling the reservation.

They should also contact the resort or vendor directly using a number from its official website, not a number supplied only by the travel agent. The reservation should match the traveler’s name, travel dates, room type, payment status, and cancellation terms.

Anyone who believes they lost money through FlyGirl World Travel can submit information through the FBI’s victim form. Travelers should keep invoices, payment receipts, card statements, refund requests, emails, texts, social media messages, itineraries, confirmation numbers, cancellation notices, and screenshots showing what was promised before the trip was canceled or disappeared.
