The newly independent Fenris Creations has announced the latest iteration of its in-development blockchain space survival game EVE Frontier will go live on 25th June.
This also means that all activity during Cycle 5 will be wiped, with the only permanent assets being players’ Grace Points, which they can convert into EVE Points.
The update, which is called Sanctuary, will introduce modular ships, expanded exploration systems, environmental hazards, and new enemies.
In particular, Fenris is positioning Cycle 6 as a foundational update, one that highlights the game’s core promise of survival, player agency and danger in a hostile science-fiction universe.
“Sanctuary puts the core systems of EVE Frontier front and center,” said game director Sæmundur Hermannsson.
“This is the foundation of the experience: building your ship, pushing deeper into the unknown as the world becomes more hostile, and making constant decisions about where to go, what to risk, and how to survive as everything and everyone shifts around you.”

The headline addition is modular ships. Players will begin with the seed of a vessel, then expand it over time by acquiring, evolving and integrating new modules. These will unlock additional capabilities and specializations, giving players more control over how their ship develops. The system is designed to make progression more player-directed and more closely tied to exploration, survival and strategic decision-making.
Cycle 6 also makes space itself more dangerous. New thermal, electromagnetic and gravitational status effects will be generated by environmental conditions such as deep space cold, nearby stars, planetary conditions and other cosmic phenomena. These hazards can affect scanning, character progression and ship condition, meaning survival will no longer be defined purely by combat or resource scarcity.
Exploration is being expanded through dormant gates, ancient structures scattered across starter systems. Players will be able to repair, re-energize and reactivate them, opening routes to new star systems.
PvE is also being upgraded through new enemies and more dynamic drone behaviors. Ferals will now compete for resources and defend key areas, while new leech enemies will attach to ships and drain resources before transforming into a chrysalis and eventually emerging as a wreck stalker mini-boss.
“This is our most impactful update yet. Modular ships, Dormant Gates, environmental hazards, and new enemies all move the game toward the same goal: giving players more agency in a galaxy that is innately dangerous and shaped by what they build, discover, and fight for,” commented development director David Bowman.
