Almost time for the infinite wait to come to an end. The countdown has begun for the theatrical release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps from Marvel Studios and the Internet is already buzzing with reactions of those lucky few who attended early previews. The most recent Instagram teaser post from Marvel Studios created quite a high tide of excitement, compliments, and some grievances from viewers too impatient to let a minute pass without airing their concerns or praises.

The post is fairly straightforward: it just reminds followers to get tickets for what is surely going to be the most anticipated superhero film of 2023, releasing theatrically on February 10. The real stories, however, are in the comments, with at least a hundred raw opinions pouring forth from those who have seen the movie. It would be a blatant lie to say that reception has been lukewarm.
One user said, “Marvel has outdone themselves and raised the bar!” Another chimed in, “best movie of the year.” Such excitement is contagious, as several comments followed proclaiming Isaac had a “FANTASTIC” (very much intended) movie, while yet another one put it, “WHAT A MOVIE MY FRIENDS WHAT A MOVIE,” with loads of crying, heart eyes, and raised hands emotes.
But not all was glitter. Praise was hurled at some performances as well. One fan said of Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, “THE mother,” whilst another claimed, “My most favorite is Pedro as Reed!!! Nailed it!”
Moreover, a Marvel movie discussion is never complete without comic book lore debates. One questioned whether the so-called X-Men movies were really canon, while another hoped Galactus wouldn’t get sidelined just like how Gorr the God Butcher was in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder.’ “Hopefully he shows up again in the Avengers films and not just as a one-film guy,” they wrote, starting a mini-thread of hopeful speculation for his future appearances.
That opinion wasn’t an accepted one. Another higher-tier critic called the script “predictable as always,” marking that even with all these wonderful reviews, there was still room for detractors.
One thing with these fiery reactions is certain: ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ is already spilling over with waves before it has even begun to run. Whether it can possibly meet the taxing high expectations remains to be answered at a later time, but storms are, indeed, scheduled to hit theaters this weekend, and every single Marvel fan is counting on it. If the early buzz is an indication, this could very well be the summer’s superhero phenomenon.

So, buy your tickets, round up the gang, and prepare to see if this new take on Marvel’s primordial family is, indeed… fantastic. Or merely okay. Judging by the reactions, I’d say place your bets on the former.
