What’s the story?
Loft Dynamics, EASA, and Airbus Helicopters have launched a VR-based flight training initiative in Nepal to improve pilot proficiency in high-altitude environments.
Why it matters
The initiative provides pilots with a safe environment to practice emergency scenarios and mountain flying in Nepal’s complex terrain and variable weather.
The bigger picture
The initiative creates a training access point for pilots across South Asia, expanding the reach of immersive flight simulation in challenging aviation environments.
March 4, 2026 – Loft Dynamics, a provider of virtual reality (VR) flight training solutions, has recently announced a new helicopter safety training initiative in Nepal. The program is a partnership with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Airbus Helicopters, and aims to reduce helicopter accidents and improve pilot preparedness in challenging environments.
The month-long safety program, based in Kathmandu, utilizes a Loft Dynamics H125 VR flight simulator alongside training courses developed by Airbus Helicopters in compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. The initiative is designed to address the challenges of Nepal’s aviation sector, which is characterized by variable weather and complex terrain.
According to the company, the program supports the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal’s (CAAN) goals for increasing pilot proficiency in remote regions. Under the new requirements, all Nepali helicopter pilots must complete four hours of simulator-based training. The curriculum will focus on mountain flying and H125 recurrent emergency training, with instruction led by specialized trainers from Airbus International Services and Airbus Helicopters.

“At Airbus Helicopters, our unwavering priority is to move the industry toward a future of zero accidents,” said Arnd von Fabeck, head of aviation safety management and international network at Airbus Helicopters. “By showcasing Loft Dynamics’ VR technology with our specialized training curricula during this dedicated Safety Roadshow, we are providing Nepali pilots with a concrete hands-on training experience to master mountain flying and emergency scenarios.”
The initiative is implemented through the EU–South Asia Aviation Partnership Project, a regional technical cooperation program by EASA that supports aviation safety, regulatory convergence, and capacity-building through sustained collaboration with civil aviation authorities and industry stakeholders across South Asia.
Commenting on the announcement, Fabi Riesen, founder and CTO of Loft Dynamics, said: “Traditional full-flight simulators are usually not feasible in places like the Himalayas. By bringing a compact, immersive VR training system directly to Nepal, pilots can now train safely and more effectively for the exact conditions and scenarios they fly in.”
Riesen added that access isn’t limited to Nepali pilots, and that the initiative also opens the door for pilots and operators across neighboring South Asian countries.
