Epic Games has revealed the latest Fortnite season, Override, bringing a huge selection of gaming icons and crossover content to the island, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, Tetris, Pac-Man and more.
The new season is all about breaking the rules and changing how players approach matches, with new items, Power-Ups, Cheat Codes, Sprites and crossover content providing plenty of new ways to play.
Sonic the Hedgehog Comes to Fortnite
One of the biggest additions to Fortnite Override is Sonic the Hedgehog, with Sonic and his iconic cast joining the game as part of the character’s 35th anniversary celebrations.
Players can get their hands on the Sonic Power Sneakers, allowing Sonic-inspired players to perform a Spin Dash or launch into an airborne Spin Attack.
The Tails Sprite also joins the action, giving players the ability to hover through the air and adding another movement option to Fortnite’s increasingly chaotic gameplay.
Players will also be able to unlock Sonic-themed Outfits, with the Battle Pass providing access to Sonic’s Outfit, the Tails Sidekick and a selection of original Outfits.
Mega Man, Tetris and Pac-Man Join the Action
Sonic isn’t the only legendary gaming character arriving in Fortnite this season.
Players can also equip Mega Man’s legendary Mega Buster, bringing one of gaming’s most recognisable weapons into the Fortnite arsenal.
The crossover madness continues with Tetris and Pac-Man. Players can use a Tetris Rift to lay down cover fire, while Pac-Man Island provides another themed destination to discover during the season.
With multiple generations of gaming icons appearing together, Override looks set to continue Fortnite’s long-running tradition of turning major pop-culture crossovers into gameplay experiences rather than simply cosmetic additions.
More Fortnite Collaborations Are Coming
Epic isn’t stopping with the initial selection of crossover content. Additional items and Outfits will be added throughout the season.
Among the upcoming additions is the Kingdom Key from KINGDOM HEARTS, alongside a dual-wielded AR and SMG inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
Players can also expect Outfits from Persona 5 Royal, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon and more.
For fans of gaming crossovers, that means the Fortnite island should continue to change as the season progresses, with even more familiar characters and items expected to arrive.
Sonic Celebrates 35 Years in Fortnite
The arrival of Sonic the Hedgehog coincides with the character’s 35th anniversary, bringing Sonic, Knuckles and Shadow into Fortnite alongside other familiar faces from the franchise.
According to Takashi Iizuka, Sonic Creative Officer at Sega of America Inc., the collaboration with Epic Games was designed to capture the speed and energy associated with the Sonic franchise.
The collaboration brings Sonic’s signature movement into Fortnite, including the iconic Spin Dash and the recognisable Green Hill Zone.
Sonic, Knuckles and Shadow will make their Fortnite debut as Android versions, while Tails and Dr. Eggman will appear in their classic forms.
Override Lets Players Rewrite the Rules
The central theme of Fortnite Override is changing the rules of the game. Players can use Cheat Codes during matches, track down Power-Ups across the island and discover Lobby Hacks in the real world to earn bonus Fortnite rewards.
The season also sees the return of Sprites, while introducing a new generation of Sprites into gameplay.
These additions give players even more ways to experiment during matches, while continuing Fortnite’s focus on unpredictable gameplay and constantly changing mechanics.
Fortnite Override Looks Set to Be Another Huge Crossover Season
From Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man to Tetris, Pac-Man, KINGDOM HEARTS and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Fortnite Override is packing plenty into its latest season.
The addition of gameplay-focused items such as Sonic Power Sneakers, the Mega Buster, Tetris Rift and new Sprites also means the season isn’t relying entirely on cosmetic collaborations.
With more Outfits, items and collaborations promised throughout the season, Fortnite players have plenty to look forward to as Epic continues to rewrite the rules of the island.
