Meta has added the Quest 3S to its line of refurbished VR headsets, saving you $30 over the cost of a new headset.
FACTS
Meta is now selling the Quest 3S — its budget-friendly VR headset—as a refurbished model for $270. That’s a $30 discount from the standard retail price of for a brand-new 128 GB device. The 256 GB is $40 off and costs $360.
According to Meta, every refurbished unit goes through a thorough inspection, testing, and professional cleaning. The devices are restored to factory settings, and Meta claims they should look and function just like a new headset.
The refurbished Quest 3S package matches what you’d get with a new device: the headset itself (with the standard facial interface pre-installed), two Touch Plus controllers with wrist straps and batteries, a charging cable, and a power adapter. No corners cut on the contents—everything is included.
You’ll get a one-year limited warranty that covers any defects or malfunctions, plus a 30-day return window if the device doesn’t meet your expectations.
CONTEXT
Entry-level VR that’s surprisingly capable
Meta designed the Quest 3S as an accessible entry point for newcomers looking to jump into the Meta VR ecosystem. It’s built with LCDs offering 1832 × 1920 pixels per eye and runs at a 90 Hz refresh rate.
Despite its entry-level status, the Quest 3S delivers reliable tracking, access to a massive game library, and even supports mixed reality experiences via its passthrough mode. Unlike the higher-end Quest 3, the 3S opts for Fresnel lenses over Pancake lenses, but it’s powered by the same chip as the flagship model. That means you’re not locked out of any VR titles — including graphics-heavy AAA games like Batman: Arkham Shadow or Asgard’s Wrath 2.
There are a couple of drawbacks. The included fabric head strap doesn’t counterbalance the headset’s front-heavy design, which makes it less comfortable for longer sessions. Swapping it out for something sturdier is almost a must. Battery life is another weak spot, clocking in at around two hours per charge. So, if you’re planning to pick one up, expect to spend a little extra on accessories. For recommendations, check out our guide to the best Quest 3S add-ons.
