Building your habitats just how you like them is a huge part of Planet Zoo 2. When it comes to meeting the requirements, you may run into a few hiccups compared to how you envisioned the space. Many of the animals have a specific amount of shelter space required to get their welfare to 100%. But when it comes to building a shelter, you have options, which we’ll share below!
How to Build a Shelter in Planet Zoo 2
Shelters can come as pre-built habitat items, workshop items, or crafted yourself with nature and scenery items. You get to choose if you’d like to put a lot of work into building the perfect habitat, or if you’d rather focus on the zoo management, wildlife reserves, and animal care.
How to Find Out How Much Shelter is Needed
An animal in a habitat will have welfare gauges for quite a few areas. When you click an animal in a habitat, a menu with their wellbeing information will pop up. In the overview tab, you’ll see Environment > Terrain.
Alternatively, you can click the habitat tab that looks like a mountain at the top of the menu. In this tab, it will show space requirements. The rock cave with z’s on the top is the shelter space requirement. If it is blue, you’ve met the required space. Red means they don’t have enough shelter.
How to Find Pre-Built Habitat Shelters
When you’re building your habitat, there’s a special section of the Habitats menu just for shelters. In the small green box to the left of the objects in the Habitats menu, there is a symbol with z’s on top of a rock shelter. That is your shelter icon, and selecting it will show the pre-built shelter options you can place inside your exhibits.
If your Essentials tab above the items is selected and appearing pink, you may be able to see more options if you select it again.
In the shelter menu, you can use the filter tool that looks like a funnel on the top right of the Habitats menu to select the species you are building the shelter for. This will make sure that what you place is the right type of shelter to suit your animal’s needs.
You can grow or shrink some shelters by holding the C Key on the keyboard and moving your mouse forward or backward.
How to Find Workshop Shelters
When you click the Habitats menu, you can find a purple box on the right side of the menu with Workshop at the top. Click the See More box below to open the player-made creations. Select the All tab from the left side, and use the filter to select Habitats > Shelters.
This will show you shelter options other players have made. Select them to download them and place them just like the regular items.
How to Build Your Own Shelter
The final way to get a shelter is to create the enclosure yourself. You can use rocks, logs, and other natural elements, or walls, arches, and other scenic structures to build your perfect shelter. Just select the objects you want to use from either the Nature or Scenery tabs and start creating your masterpiece.
Just make sure your climbing or jumping animals can’t jump on the top and escape their enclosure — or don’t. We’re not here to prevent you from creating chaos for your guests if that’s how you like to play. Having some sort of structure over the top that the animals can get underneath will fulfill their shelter requirement.
