May 22, 2026 – Distance Technologies Oy, a developer of glasses-free XR, lightfield display systems, and Galvion, a provider of integrated head systems for military and tactical use cases, have this week announced a collaboration to integrate Distance’s augmented reality (AR) computational optics and Acuity OS into Galvion’s head system solutions.
The collaboration brings together Galvion’s head system and integrated soldier solution capabilities with Distance’s visual augmentation technology. According to the companies, the work will align helmet design, subsystem integration, and user interface development, with the goal of moving from technical development to customer evaluation and commercialization.
Galvion designs, develops, and delivers advanced integrated soldier systems, intelligent power and data management systems, and headworn solutions for military and tactical teams. Distance develops computational optics, AI-driven lightfield systems and visual intelligence for defense, automotive and aerospace use cases. According to the company, its technology can turn periscopes, windshields, helmet mounts and handheld devices into transparent mixed-reality sensors that combine hyperspectral and multispectral data, thermal imagery and 3D lightfields into a single HUD.
The companies stated that together, their integrated systems are expected to improve usability, durability, and field suitability for dismounted troops receiving tactical data through a visual augmentation system. Market-ready integrated systems are expected in 2027, following trial, evaluation and validation.
