Following player concerns about a new DRM timer tied to digital purchases that requires users to verify their license every 30 days by connecting to the internet, PlayStation released a statement addressing the issue. According to a representative who spoke to GameSpot, players will still be able to access their digital games as usual. The only new requirement is a one-time check-in.
“Players can continue to access and play their purchased games as usual. A one-time online check is required to confirm the game’s license, after which no further check-ins are required.”
Sony recently sent an email to players announcing that users worldwide will need to verify their ages later this year to continue using communication features on PlayStation, such as online text and voice chat. The company stated that the requirement is intended to enable “safe, age-appropriate experiences for players and families while respecting their privacy.” Players will still be able to access their libraries and trophies, including the PlayStation Catalog and store, purchase games, and play titles online without verification. A specific rollout date has not been announced, but Sony is expected to provide further details in the future.
