The most thrilling bit of news in this world has been the proclamation on social media that the production of The Devil Wears Prada 2 has entered the production phase. The original 2006 cult classic has perhaps never truly had a premiere source for quoting in pop culture. And it had the accompaniment of Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt. Judging by online reactions, this lucrative sequel just might break the internet when it lands.

The lengthy announcement came by way of two high-heel emojis along with a clip from the original film in which Miranda Priestly sarcastically declares, “By all means move at a glacial pace, you know how that thrills me.” That single line was enough to make grown-ups scream into their mobiles. Perfectly describing the mood of the entire internet was a user who said, “CINEMA IS BACK I CANT WAIT” in all caps, along with crying emojis. One witty comment said, “THE ONLY EMILY WHO DESERVES TO BE IN PARIS,” a sarcastic shoutout at the much-maligned Netflix show, Emily in Paris.
Anne Hathaway fans got really excited here, as 2026 is shaping up to be her big comeback year. This sequel and the long-awaited Princess Diaries 3 will firmly put the Oscar winner back on her throne and, once more, be deservedly called America’s Sweetheart. There was a comment saying, “2026 will be Anne Hathaway’s year,” while others rambled on about her other upcoming projects, including The Odyssey and Verity. The suspense in the air is almost accompanied by a rustling coming from closets everywhere packed with cerulean belts.
The Brazilian set got out of control from here; one almost shouted VAMOS BRASIL, VAMOS MULHERES while, in other spaces, others imagined the trailer played to classic Brazilian soap opera tunes. What international appeal remains for this franchise still remains unapproached, with Swedes commenting, “Längtar!!!!” (I’m longing for it!!!) and Italians saying thanks.
The best comments are those from people who were already planning their movie theater schedule: “WE WILL BE WATCHING AND EATING POPCORN OUT OF THE HEEL SHAPED POPCORN BUCKETS,” one declared, spawning an entire conversation on merchandise ideas. Others are now reminiscing: “are you wearing? — the Prada pitchfork stilettos? yeah, I am!” ticketing The Devil Wears Prada as an all-time big hit in our collective memory.
But it wasn’t really a couple of them sold on the idea yet. “if that’s the case why are there no jobs in LA/NYC for union members?!” some asked skeptically, revealing complex realities about labor in Hollywood beneath that shiny spotlight of sequel announcements. Another wished regarding the script “(wouldn’t be) obsessed with Asian pro/antagonists or AI written,” showing recent concerns of the industry.
But what everyone wants to know is whether or not Andy Sachs is coming back. “This is so exciting!!! I hope Andy is back,” one fan commented, with praying-hands emoji. Other comments speculated that might be “the real reason Anna Wintour jumped ship,” which was a nice joke.

Rumors of release dates have already started, the comment made by a Portuguese speaker, “O filme estreia em 30 de abril de 2026 nos cinemas” (The film premieres April 30, 2026 in theaters). There were disputes over May, but no matter the date, one of the biggest fashion police ever will come sniffing down upon Miranda Priestly back on screens. And I leave it here.
