Konami released a Silent Hill f patch worldwide that adds a Casual action difficulty level that will be more easy than Story and will allow people to skip certain parts if you are on a New Game+ run. These are paired with both some quality of life adjustments and bug fixes. Once applied, it will bring the game up to 1.10.
The announcement didn’t bring up exactly how the Casual difficulty changes things compared to the Story, Hard, and Lost in Fog ones, but the Silent Hill f patch notes specifically refers to this as affecting “action difficulty.” This means it should apply to encounters with enemies and general gameplay. As a refresher, the Story option made enemies weaker and kept them from decreasing Hinako’s Sanity when they’d manage to grab her. Casual will be difficult when you start a new game of any type, but we can also swap to it if we die a bunch during any other kind of run.
When it comes to the new skip option in Silent Hill f, it only could be used on New Game+. If used, you could miss three trophies and the items picked up if you normally went through that part, but still could get any ending. Konami explained exactly when it will come up in this official explanation in the patch notes. I quoted it exactly, for the sake of ensuring no spoilers are mentioned:
“Upon completing the ‘Go through the door’ objective after solving the mural puzzle on New Game+, the game will display the option to skip. The game will resume at the scene where Hinako awakens at the corridor of the Dark Shrine for the second time with the ‘Proceed’ objective if skipped.”
As for the quality of life adjustments, it seems like most of them apply to combat segments. In general, her stamina won’t take as long to be restored, and someone who plays on Hard will find the damage totals when hit will be more reasonable and a little lower. There will be fewer enemies in some areas, though Konami didn’t mention which ones, and it also noted there will be fewer “unskippable” fights in some sections. The patch notes also mentioned, “Hinako’s line when an enemy is defeated plays at a slightly later time.” The bug fixes can vary a bit based on platform, which are listed on the official site.
Silent Hill f is available on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
