Chavez posted the video of her character Celina Juarez, and she included a very proud caption with it. “Season 8 trailer here!!! New levels. Higher stakes,” was her message. “I’m so proud of this cast and can’t wait for you to see what’s coming.”
Coming has to be a real feast for eyes visually. Two-minute quick glimpses allow a peek into a season which has the plot of the series going to places that are outside L.A. The quick cuts take the mid-Wilshire squad to a global sting operation showing them in the picturesque streets of Prague as well as the Las Vegas strip. The dialogues point to high-level arms smuggling, FBI’s involvement, and backstabbing that hits hard. One of the scenes that is especially shocking shows a plane in trouble with a scared “Mayday, Mayday, we’re going down!” call, and another hints at a big explosion.
It is quite usual to hear the phrase “How you like me now?” being played in the background throughout the trailer, it has really secured a place in the hearts of the heroes as a stronghold slogan while facing setbacks that are probably the worst in their lives. The trailer is full of promises of fighting and extreme sentiments that are the main ingredients with the political campaigning for a District Attorney and the very painful expressing of love—”You broke my heart. The scar is so deep that it might take forever to go away.”—all these are the main ingredients.
Fans responded very quickly and their response was very positive. Many admitted that they kept on watching the trailer all the time. One person called it “the best trailer ever” while another one admitted, “How many times have I watched the trailer…? I guess at least 100 times… I am SOOO obsessed!!!” The thrill knows no borders, and the international fans are already making their watch-show plans. “If you ask me, waking up at 4 a.m. for this is not a bad idea,” remarked a dreamy fan, while another one asked, “Will it be the same time as for your Australian friends ???”
Among the hustle and bustle, some sequences drew special attention. A viewer conjectured regarding a pivotal moment, “Liz who was that in the explosion clip” and another one even went further questioning,” Can you tell what character that is Liz?” Chavez responded with 4 wide-eyed emojis thereby amplifying the mystery. The size and expense of the international setting also drew public attention, with one viewer who recognized the high-quality look of the international scenes jokingly saying, “I see the budget has officially been increased!!”
The trailer was nothing short of an emotional rollercoaster for the viewers. “If I keep watching this trailer, I’m going to sob! It’s the first time a trailer has ever made me cry,” said a fan whose detective instinct had been awakened. The focus on the character of Celina also increased the excitement. “This season seems to be very emotional and action-packed at the same time!! I cannot wait to see what is in store for Celina this season!!” was one comment that got another saying simply, “can’t wait to see THE celina ‘badass’ juarez in action.”
Naturally, when you discuss ‘The Rookie’ fandom, the comic-relief of ‘Chenford’—the fan-favorite couple made up of characters Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford—cannot be overlooked. The tension between them shown in the trailer has the fans shouting, “CHENFORD, STOP IT RIGHT NOW” while another one was more positive, “I so hope my shayla, my otp (chenford) will be together.” The trailer artfully fans out these personal stakes alongside the global crime saga.

The anticipations have been raised properly as there are just a little over three weeks left until the premiere. The trailer has done its job: it has reminded the viewers why they love this show, and at the same time, it has pretty much raised their expectations for the return of the show. As one fan beautifully put it, the trailer makes the long wait “look like it was worth the wait.” The cops of Mid-Wilshire are heading for their riskiest operation ever and the audience is already on board and ready for the ride.
