Embark Studios, the developer behind The Finals and the upcoming third-person extraction shooter ARC Raiders, has revealed it currently has two new games in the conceptual phase of development, with one having more “edge” to it and the other being more conventional. Assuming both come to fruition, they are likely still many years away from being revealed, as Embark is currently gearing up to launch ARC Raiders for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on October 30.
After leaving EA in 2018, Patrick Soderlund founded Embark Studios alongside numerous other DICE veterans. The studio would then release The Finals in 2023, a free-to-play first-person shooter featuring destructible environments and pitting teams against each other in a game-show-style arena to see who comes out on top. While The Finals debuted to big player count numbers, reviews were mixed at launch. It has since achieved a positive review rating on Steam and has continued to receive regular content updates for the last two years.
Embark Studios Has Concepts for Two New Games
The Finals is still receiving new updates, but Embark is now gearing up to release its next title, ARC Raiders, on October 30. While the game hasn’t even shipped yet, Embark is already thinking about what’s next. In a new interview with The Game Business, CEO Patrick Soderlund was asked about the studio’s future projects and whether or not they are all online games, due to how “high risk” the market is right now. Soderlund responded by saying, “That, I think, is just ingrained in our DNA. That doesn’t mean that they’re online games in the same way as The Finals or ARC Raiders.” The developer then explains that one of the two concepts has a lot more “edge” to it when compared to The Finals or ARC Raiders, while the second is much more conventional.
It looks like Embark could be in the early stages of working on its third game, but those looking forward to the studio’s new extraction shooter don’t need to worry, as ARC Raiders has some ambitious post-launch plans. Although there won’t be the traditional seasonal content updates that live-service titles have become well-known for, Embark says it plans to release meaningful updates when they are ready. These will include new maps, Arcs, balance adjustments, bug fixes, quests, and more.
After ARC Raider‘s hugely successful playtest earlier this month, Embark’s next game looks like it could be about to take the extraction shooter scene by storm. But, with that being said, it’s going to have some tough competition, as Escape From Tarkov, arguably the most famous extraction shooter of all time, is finally coming to Steam on November 15, just two weeks after ARC Raider‘s launch.
