New medieval VR MMORPG announced by former Zenith and Orbus developers

Eldramoor is the latest fantasy VR MMORPG to take a swing at reviving a battered genre. A Kickstarter campaign is just around the corner.

Resolute Games has officially revealed its first title, “Eldramoor: Haven in the Mist,” coming soon to Meta Quest and PC VR via Steam. This new fantasy VR MMORPG is gearing up for a Kickstarter launch and is being built by a team with hands-on experience from the likes of Orbus and Zenith — two of the most popular VR MMORPGs.

“I got into VR in 2018 through Orbus, and even as someone who wasn’t a traditional gamer, I fell in love with the competition and community. But over time, the games I loved either stalled or failed. That’s when I decided to take the bull by the horns and build something new, a real home for the VR MMORPG community I care so deeply about,” Lynn M. Souza, founder, CEO, and Executive Designer at Resolute Games, explains.

Diverse Regions, Mysterious Lore, and a Social Core

Eldramoor’s pitch is all about community, accessibility, and inclusivity — pretty much putting social interaction and player-driven community at the center. Whether you’re fighting monsters, diving into a slew of professions, or just throwing darts in the local tavern, the game wants to make sure there’s a place for everyone.

“I want Eldramoor to feel like coming home. The kind of place where you walk in to a tavern and everyone shouts your name like in Cheers. A world where you’re accepted, no matter who you are,” Souza sums up the project’s vibe.

The story kicks off with a group of refugees who wash up on a mysterious island, founding the settlement of Eldramoor. Players follow in the footsteps of the legendary hero Eldranis as they explore a world split into regions like Arinod, Zobu, Glacera, and Torcia — each with its own challenges and shaped by powerful leylines.

CONTEXT

VR MMORPGs: A Genre That Keeps Getting Knocked Down

Let’s be honest: VR MMORPGs have never really had it easy. The market for these games is tiny, and the studios that try to make them are usually too small to keep up with the crushing development demands for more than a few years at best. Still, Resolute Games is taking another shot, this time leaning on the veteran developers who helped build Orbus and Zenith — two games that, for a while, were the spiritual backbone of the whole genre.

It’s not been a great time for VR MMORPGs recently. The two most recognizable names — Zenith and OrbusVR — were both shut down within the past twelve months. Zenith, easily the biggest title in the space, halted development in July 2024 after struggling to keep players engaged. Despite pulling in hundreds of thousands of initial players, most dropped off after about a month. The servers are still online “for the foreseeable future,” but there won’t be any new content.

OrbusVR, the original VR MMORPG for Meta Quest and PC VR, also called it quits earlier this year. After eight years, sales ended on all platforms on February 10, 2025, and the servers were finally taken offline on April 6, 2025.

Eldramoor is stepping into a tough landscape, but with experienced hands at the wheel and a clear emphasis on community, maybe this time the genre will finally catch a break. We’ll see if the Kickstarter can rally enough support to give VR adventurers a new home.
