Sitting on top of the Wildcard PC game, and the Thousands streaming platform and community layer, the Wildcard Premier League is the game’s key web3 economic flywheel.
It enables users to participate in the ecosystem without playing Wildcard itself, although you can, of course, do both.
One element is the ability for users who have passed KYC to become franchise owners.
You become a franchise owner by spending WC tokens to buy soulbound in-game characters, called summons. These are available in three tiers, priced at 1,000, 3,000 and 10,000 WC.
Every summons bought increases your franchise score, which is generated by the rate at which you earn Thousands’ XP. The higher your franchise score and hence your ranking on one of the tiered leaderboards, the more likely you are to receive a weekly franchise offer. This is the opportunity to sell one of your summoned characters for USDC, hence the KYC requirement.
However, you can choose not to take an offer in the hope you’ll receive a larger offer in future. Although, you need to be aware that summoned characters are only active for a certain number of days, starting from five weeks.
The other key economic element is the ability to buy sponsorships. This is a weekly system, which sells a limited number of sponsorships at three price tiers – $25, $250 and $2,500 – in each of the game’s three houses.
At the end of each week, the owners of sponsorships are rewarded pro rata from the total WC token prize pool that each house has generated. The house with the most wins in Wildcard tournaments gets a 20% bonus. You will also get a bonus for the length of time you’ve held your sponsorships.
Unlike franchises, you can keep your sponsorship running for as long as you want, or use the opportunity to cash it in for the WC tokens it has accumulated. This is available two weeks post-sale, at the end of each weekly cycle.
